Have a Buddy heater. Works perfect on 1 lb. cylinders. Tired of those and bought 5 lb tank and 12 foot Mr. Heater hose. It will not work on the 5 lb but still works perfect on 1 lb cylinders. Tried a different hose and still no go. Tank was purged according to details on the box. Advice please.

Does the hose have a regulator on? There is alot of you tube videos on the hoses that causes the buddy to not work by letting oil through.

Describe the symptom a little more? Is it the quick disconnect hose with the regulator or is it the unregulated one that uses the onboard bottle regulator?

Have you purged the air out of the hose? It can take a few minutes of holding the pilot button down to actually get gas to the ignition point.

Yep, and hopefully he has the quick connect hose OR he will need a filter with the other hose.
I typically shove a needlenose plyers into the end of the hose to purge the air quickly. Not sure its a bright idea, but I never have anything lit around and put it away from me.

I use this method for mine and it stopped all the cussing that used to happen dealing with the heater…

I have an old tooth brush I keep in the Big Buddy carry bag to bleed the line until I smell gas, then I connect it via the quick connect to the heater. Very simple, very easy.

Never thought of the bleeding out trick…that’s going to save me some time.

Had the same problem with mine beginning of the season. Mr heater makes two different hoses which do you have ? The one with the green knob that goes to the tank I couldn’t get to work model f273703-144. Ended up using f273702 12 foot hose without a regulator but a filter dryer attached to the heater.

I have a 12 foot hose. The diagram on the hose instructions shows it hooked directly to heater and tank. No filter or regulator. My understanding is that off brand hoses have the oil issue. My hose is Mr. Heater brand same as the Buddy Heater.

Which hose do you have? The one f273703-144 felt like it was not going all the way into the tank. All I could get to work was the piolit light.

It’s not just the off brand hoses that have the oil issues. I don’t know the part #’s but there is a couple certain mr heater hoses that they say do not have the oil problem.

part #f273703-144 is what I have. Also tried hose f273702. It has the plastic fitting/nut that screws on the tank just like a propane grill.

You would think that all the Mr. Heater hoses would be compatible with their heaters without issues. They are building/selling the heater AND the accessories.

I agree, don’t shoot the messenger I’m just saying what I found out in my research. This is straight from mr heaters website

I agree what I’ve experienced is that reading in the product description one works on 5-10-20 l.p. tanks and one works only with a 20 pounder

My understanding is the hose with the regulator is for 20 lb tanks. Any hose is supposed to work with the small tanks.

Thanks for the info and advice guys. I will let you know when/if I get the darn thing working on the 5 lb tank.
