Hey group’ I’m Gary from Columbus Ohio & I am an obsessed Roughfish junkie – Carp, Buffalo Suckers, Catfish & Gar..it’s what I do & I’m always willing to share the hot bite with anyone who’ll join me.
I target Carp nearly year round & focus on high volume catching in urban downtown settings – Sweet corn on the hook, Euro tackle or on the fly we all warship the Queen of the River here.

Being a roughie then you all about the hair rigs that them euros love so much? And how do you feel they work? If you do use them what kind of hook are you using that you find in the states here?

Hair rigs are ultra effective & are designed to work perfectly to the way a Carp feeds & once you get past the idea that no bait is actually on the hook you’ll see your bite to hook up rates go through the sky – I was a pretty good Carp Angler before I came across the euro style of fishing & was resistant to change but I can honestly say with whole conviction “the hair rig made me a better catcher “lol
Hooks – I am very partial to a #10 Mustad C67s signature series fly hooks, 2x short 3x strong – this small sharp hook hangs up near perfectly 90% of the time dead center in the thick bottom lip (trust me you ain’t gonna bend that hook ) That being said I typically am fishing a small imitation bait or single grain of Corn so the weight of the hook does not hamper the “slurpability” from old Buglemouth. When I actually lover myself to fish a boilie I do use large euro brand hooks (Fox, Korda, Nash ) simply because it seems to keep Fish buttoned up but also cost stupid $ & don’t hold a point well IMHO –

Hey BK. Are you gonna let this guy call catfish a “rough fish”?

JK. Welcome to the site. I’m not a carp guy but those are some pretty cool looking fish.

I’m a hardcore carp fisherman myself. I mainly use euro tackle (12-13 foot rods, bite alarms, pods etc) but also use paylake rigs in certain situations. Gary Law, we should talk -)
