Just had one of the best trips of my life. Tarpon have been on my bucket list for a long time. The wife and I fished for 3 days in Boca Grande, Florida with a great guide that put us on the fish. My arms are still sore but would do it again in a minute.

Looks fun. I’m thinking about Tarpon for next spring. Who was your guide?

Go to Reelfishing.com, Danny Latham. We had 15 hook ups in 2 days of Tarpon fishing. Our 3rd day, the wind blew 30 mph, so we ducked out of the wind and did some Snook fishing which was also a lot of fun on light tackle.

Thank you for paying my state taxes. Looks like a lot of fun.

We are renting a boat and I am hoping to accidentally hook up with one, if not catch it. Going to drift Bean Point or maybe Egmont Key…away from the other boats so I don’t get called a Googan.

Very cool! I would pay $500 to experience that one slow mo jump on the end of my rod! Nicely done!

I had one fish that came so far out of the water that it almost landed in the boat right across from us.

I fished down in the keys in early April and we hooked 6 and landed 3 in a full day. We also did some sight fishing for barracuda. Not sure if this will attach or not:

I’ve been chasing a 100# tarpon for awhile now. Been able to catch smaller ones but finally got one this time…..now I want the drug even more!

    Congrats on your trip….looked epic!

Tarpon and Jack Crevalle are the hardest fighting fish I have ever caught. The power of those fish are incredible.

The big ones would act like they didn’t even know they were hooked and swim off with 50 yards of line. Love listening to the screaming drags in the videos.

We got on some top water jacks, too. The way they chase baits is awesome.

    Tough to beat tarpon fishing.
    Congrats on some nice fish.

I would bet your going to go back next year.

Jacks are fun as hell and I haven’t even caught a big one yet. Pull one way, the pull the other. They never stop pulling.

When fishing the keys I hooked into 2 tarpon, and both ended up throwing the hook.

I have a score to settle now

I’d be happy with a scrappy 5# juvenile, but I haven’t found where the juveniles winter around here.

The first day out we were 0 – 7 before landing the last 3 to go 3 – 10. It was humbling to say the least. Luckily, we went 4 – 5 on day 2 to regain some self esteem.

I think 25% is a good ratio. My guide said they just focus on the fight….if you get a release that’s a bonus. A few good jumps and long runs are what makes it fun.
