After a hard grind I picked up the fishing pole for awhile and caught some walleyes go a few days before my brother lincoln lit a fire under me on probably the hottest afternoon of the year yet. Long story short a lot of hiking up some steep terrain and some serious belly crawling a few subtle purrs and yelps and within 2 hours we had two mature Tom’s with tags around there legs in the evening sun. Lincoln bagged a great eastern with nice hooks and I shot a heavy hybrid with a great beard. Love hunting with family -QB

Nice birds. May I ask what is a Hybrid? I assume it is a wild Turkey crossed with another species of wild turkey or crossed with a domestic Turkey. From the picture it sure looks like both birds are a wild Eastern bird

Quintin’s bird (on the left) has lighter tips on the lower tail feathers; Easterns have a light brown tip on the upper tail feathers only where Merriam’s have white tips on both the upper and lower tail feathers.

Nice birds Quintin, makes all the belly crawling worth it!

Yep pretty much spot on easterns shorter tail feathers have the brown on them where Merriams are white. In my part of the state we actually have a mix of all three species as the SWO tribe introduced rio grand turkeys awhile back in with native eastern and merriams. In talking to our biologist at times you would need a DNA test to actually prove what you shot. I harvested a bird that hard very carAmel coerced fan this year along with caramel colored short tail feathers and looked identical to the Rio I shot in kansas so in the end it is hard to tell. By far tho the merriams are a very beautiful bird with there white tipped fans. QB
