There are a few areas in the state that are hard to get people to talk about. Park Rapids and Brainerd both come to my mind first. I do not know why though, as both areas get fished hard by locals and tourists.
I have heard that the eyes are biting descent on Gull just need to sort a lot for size. I have heard that the crappies are smacking minnows and jigs on other area lakes.

For the smaller lakes that do not have plowed roads, I have heard that the travel is misserable or impossible?

After the cold weather that we just had I can not believe that it is that way anymore.
Yes for a while they were brutal.

I hope that you are correct about that
We may get the Grandsons up there to fish with Grandpa next weekend.
My Dad told me a week ago that he could not get on his lake with his suburban or four wheeler. Snow was too deep and still too much slush under allof that snow!
It sounds like the Jaycees tourney in Brainerd will actually have great weather this year, and they deserve it!
I would love to make it back over there, but can not afford to buy a hole for each of my kids
    Good luck
    cheers

Jason just stopped by and dropped off the MarCum 825c he borrowed for his trip. MAN did they ever get into the pike and bass! He showed me some of the footage he recorded and it is some good stuff. I’m not going to steal any of his thunder but it looked like the fish were biting. He also should have an ice and travel conditions report for the area.

We are still fishing around here, but it has been a different winter compared to previous years. Many anglers are still having a tough time getting around with the deep snow and slush areas. If you have a sled you get fish lots of areas that were untouched so far this winter. Just like the IDO show from Rainy Lake, maybe not that good but nonetheless untapped resources. Most anglers have had to stick close to the plowed areas. There has been a nice pike and crappie bite lately. You can see from Jason’s report that the pike fishing is fun. Some areas of slush have froze up and some have not. It seems to be a guessing game out there.
