This year I decided it was time to experiment with a braid to Fluro setup on a spinning outfit for several applications. I was looking to get longer cast, More sensitivity, and better hooksets. I believe I have found the perfect setup. I’m using Seaguar smackdown braid for my mainline, tied to Seaguar Invizx Fluro. I’m currently using the Smackdown in the 4/15 test ( 4 Lb. Dia. / 15 Lb. test ) The Fluro leader depends on the application ( 8-12 Lb. ) This setup achieved everything I was looking for and more. It cast a country mile, the sensitivity is incredible, and hooksets are rock solid. I’m currently using this setup for both Jigworms and Texas rigging and could not be happier. The Seaguar line is a little on the expensive side, but is by far the best that I’ve tried.

What knot are you using to connect the fluoro to the braid?

I’m with you thumper, all my spinning rods are set up with braid fluoro combinations. I’ve been using Tatsu as a leader and although expensive I have been impressed with Seaguar products. Use an Albright knot to connect. May try smackdown braid next, sounds like you like it…

What brand of Braid are you currently using in your setup? I need to practice tying that Albright knot a little more. I tried it a few times but had a hard time getting the hang of it. It does look like it may be a bit smoother knot going thru the rod Eyes. Yes give the Smackdown a try. I really liked it. Although expensive it should last a long time and the cost should average out over that long period of time

Hope you are able to get out a few more times this year. If I’m up in your area and have a open seat I’ll let you know.

    Any Kids Tourney this year?

I use 10 lb Power Pro to Seaguar 12-15 Floro Leader material. I have used this combination since Power pro came out about 16 years ago. I have never once had a uni to uni break.

The only changes I have made over that 16 year period I moved form 12 to 15lb Seaguar primarily because i learned 15 is better in the battle against pike.

I also went from power pro to power pro to power 10lb pro super slick. IT casts much better, retains strength and is quieter coming through the guides.

I will add, I tried a couple spools of Nano Fil…..JUNK! JUNK JUNK. At least in my application where I cast a lot. It frayed up and was just way weaker than Power pro products.

Have been mostly using Sufix 832 – found it to be quieter through the guides than Power Pro. How is Smackdown in that regard?

Don’t really notice a noise so it must be quiet

I use Suffix braid to suffice floro 10 for lake and 17 for river smallies. Cast great and do not get bit off or too many breaks. Uni to Uni knot has been the best one . Tried blood knots just took me too long . The Uni to uni is quick and works great.

How long do you make your fluoro leaders? I try to get around ten feet.

Long enough to make it worth tying on and short enough to cast without going into the guides.

Edit: I did not mean for that to sound rude. Anywhere from 24-36″ works for me.
