For trolling cranks in 16 ft. or less what does everyone prefer for line and what lb. test? Have always used 10 lb. mono but wondering if time to change

Really depends on the water you are fishing.
On Lake Superior early season I run 20/6 power pro to about a 25’ leader of Seaguar fluorocarbon. If I’m fishing the upper St Louis river for walleye I might use a 3’ leader.
I believe you fish LOTW if memory serves in summer. I would probably troll braid to a 10-12 foot flouro leader and use a rod with some give to it. I have a bunch of Daiwa Wilderness fiberglass rods that I use for trolling that are cheap but solid.
I like the combo of braid to a fluoro leader for most all trolling situations. My .02$ smile

xplorer you tie a swivel between the braid and floor?

On most all of my longlining setups I do use a small swivel between them that passes thru the eyelets.
When I’m using shorter fluoro leads (ice fishing, jigging) I usually just tie back to back uni knots.

Double uni knots between the braid and mono for me.

I really prefer all mono for trolling. Braid is just a PITA in general.

Braid usually but I’d check line bow caused by the diving lure. Too much and strike detection / hook sets could be a problem.
Uni-uni knot is called for if a fluorocarbon leaded is needed, but usually 8 – 10 lb test braid gets it done.

I use 15 lb. Power Pro for trolling cranks and have been using it for maybe 12 years now. I don’t use a leader and have never found a reason to so so. I do use a short 15 lb. fluorocarbon leader with lead core line.

I use 15 or 20lb Power Pro. In clear water use a 6′ fluorocarbon leader, in stained water tie directly to the Power Pro.

I use 20 to 30 lb power pro pulling cranks in every situation. Been that way for a few years now and I’ll never switch back. Never use a floro leader either. You aren’t finessing them to bite, you don’t need to waste your time with a leader. It actually takes away one of the biggest benefits of using braid. Caught hundreds of walleyes this year alone in 8 ft of water or less and in the clearest water northern wisconsin has to offer. A looot of them were caught opening weekend when trolling < 2 mph in broad daylight. Mid day, after dark, deep, shallow, doesn’t matter. 20-30 lb braid straight to the crank. Always.
