Glenn I was up Sunday on about a 300 acre lake that gets to 32 feet deep with at least half of the lake 20+. Ice was 8-10 inches and super solid. I don’t think this weather is doing much to deteriorate ice at all. As long as you aren’t going on a super deep lake you should be good but obviously use caution.

    The panfish were biting well.

yay yay yay yay that is so awesome to hear. thanks a ton!!!!! woot yea i dont expect to venture out over anything deeper then 10 ft!!!!

    Glenn,

Looks like I could get my boat in the water without much work on Williams Narrows webcam…

I see Highbanks says they still have 8″ but it is going to be rough up there for some time.

Came up yesterday in the rain. When I got here the neighbor was headed out on his wheeler with a buddy and a portable on north end of Bowstring. I did see them come back too so that’s good. Was one other group out there that I could see too, but not much going on in general yet. Supposed to be really nice Thursday and Friday and think there’s plenty of good ice around here that’ll start firming up now if you are cautious. Be plenty nice enough to chase some grouse too though.

Found 10-12 inches of solid ice on small crappie lakes on Saturday. Fish were a little lethargic for New Years time but caught plenty of all sizes from dink’s up to 14’s.

Headed out a few miles on Winnie out of a public access on Sunday and found a consistent 9-10 of solid ice. Other than a couple small ridges it was smooth sailing. Fishing was okay but nothing to write home about. Kept some walleyes and big jumbos. One of my friends was fighting a bug so we hunkered down in the house and didn’t move around like I like to out there. Ice is shaping up nice out there.

I talked to a local at the bar that told me about some people and gear that went in over the last couple weeks. Wasn’t surprised they went for a swim after hearing the circumstances and locations.

We should be sitting pretty good by next week. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some trucks going out but I’m gonna stick to the sled or wheeler for a bit.

Think the fish are in that mid winter funk already. chased only seen 2 do far. That’s unusual for the lake I’m on.

my son and I met my friend and his kid last weekend and stayed on sand lake. We caught a handful of dinky pike which we kept. Tried to find panfish during the day which was tough. We then tried the evening bite and the crappies came through the last hour of light to dark. 25-27′, finicky biters but good fish. 8-9″ of ice.

Tried bowstring sunday morning for just a little bit, went out of the NW public access with the wheeler, marked a bunch of fish but must have been dinky perch as they would only peck at our spoons. only caught 1 20″ pike for the short time we were out there before the kids got cold. about the same amount of ice out there, we went out about 1.5 miles

    Good luck Glenn!

I’ll be up this coming weekend. If you’re still there, let me know if you want to meet up. It was very quiet out on the lake last weekend. Only 1 group with a SxS and another on foot all weekend that I could see.
