i just got an update from a feller that lives up in that area…well over between marcell and grand rapids. he checked out a local lake, 10 inches of ice and 5 inches of slush.
what i also found yesterday was a snowfall map. it showed Talmoon had 6.9 inches of new snow, Marcell which is maybe 6 miles east of Talmoon had 13.7 inches?
Report from just NE of Cass Lake last evening. 8-10″ of ice, 12″+ of snow with another 2-3″ of slush under the new snow. Knee boots recommended, and tough walking.
I heard in the bowstring area, particularly bowstring, Geiger’s shut down there access until things freeze up. They reported 8 inches of slush out of there place
Over towards Marcell, grand rapids 10 inches of ice, 5 inches slush!
Went up Thursday, cabin lake was. Fine at first. Then Sunday morning this!
And this my footprint was rock hard the day before.
Anyone up this weekend and want to do some fishing? Haven’t been out yet this year, but sounds like you might be able to get around a little better out there now and some plowed roads available too. PM me if you’re in the area.
weather looks like its going to behave itself………so heading north in the morning!!!!! hopefully the fish cooperate……..may even venture to bowstring one day!!!!!
my informants up there say lake travel is pretty good and they’ve had only about 6 inches of snow since new years……………….
Good luck Glenn! I’d come out and join you, but can’t get up there this weekend. I’ll be up the next 2 though so let me know if you’re going to be around.

I’ll be heading home the following Saturday.
Fishing was good some days other days not so much. This was last Sunday.
These where yesterday, Friday, days in between were so-so. Weather was great!;
anybody got any idea what kind of mess this last round of snow left up there????
judging by the webcams they got snow but hard to tell how much???
Six to eight inches so far in Grand Rapids. The snow can melt any time now.
anyone been up that way recently?? reading Jeff Sundins report he put up yesterday said there is alot of slush again om the lakes. resorts are not recommending vehicle travel and have about gave up on there roads on the ice!
fella i know on sand lake next to lakewood lodge watched a couple of guys struggle with getting off the lake with a sled and wheeler? think he said they never did get out that he seen!!!
Brother sent me this a bit ago. Inhabiting the cabin lake!
Nice! Watch your toes this summer and take your bait and fish up to the cabin with you. Or…some good eats if you like turtle.
I’ll be up over Memorial and the following week. Working on finding some good seasonal dock and lift service at the moment if you know anyone.
Erik I will be up over Memorial weekend as well, me and a couple buddies rented a cabin at Geigers. If you see a grey/black tracker give a shout out maybe we can share a cold beverage.
Yea as usual he never tells the complete story up front he told me it was dead and floated up to our shoreline. We have done a fair amount of getting turtles, he said it was a huge shell and could of been about 25 lbs of meat.
I’m headed up Monday morning probably headed home the Saturday morning of memorial weekend
I guess if you look close enough…sounds good Glenn. Enjoy the week up there!
John – yeah, let’s do it. We’ll be up Thursday. There’s always a few things to do, but just shoot me a PM. It would be a nice break. Hope the boat will float off the bunks this time. Need to burn off the storage gas ya know! Black and blue Alumacraft Trophy which I think you’ve seen when I stopped in for tires last fall.

Sounds like a deal Erik. I will try to remember to give you a shout. Yes I recall the boat looking pretty nice. Hope the tires are working out good.
