Kid was up over Labor Day and used this trick he heard about to help keep flies at bay. Worked pretty good for the most part. Shiny pennies in a bag of water. Supposed to mess with the flies eyes.

Fishing was so so. 16 sunfish and 18 pike over 3 days and 4 different lakes

Thanks for the report, Glenn. I’ll be up this weekend.

Wife and I acquired some property up there recently so maybe we’ll bump into you at Riley’s sometime.

Where you buy property at?? I know the area pretty good.

Sounds good! Thanks for the tip. Have heard that a place called Timberwolf or something over by Marcell is a good place too for dinner. Know anything about that?

We’re on Bowstring not far from the NE access.

must be the cty rd 35 access!! We are north of there maybe 6-8 miles. Up the wirt road.

Yea the timber wolf isn’t a bad place. A bit spendy, my kid used to go there alot but he wasn’t real impressed over Labor Day weekend. He ordered a bacon cheeseburger and got 1 slice of bacon. I’ve ate there before and food was good and worth the price.i just don’t go out much up there, time is too short and I can go out to eat at home.

Timberwolf used to be great, then the original owner retired and sold a few years ago. Now it’s just okay especially for the price. The Calamari was once the best I have ever had, now it’s rubbery and tasteless. Everything else is edible, but I will no longer go out of my way for it.

Yeah, Glenn. Cty 35. I enjoy cooking most of my meals too. Sometimes you just don’t feel like it and since we’re new to the area doesn’t hurt to help the local economy and meet new folks!

Thanks for the skinny on Timberwolf also, Munchy. Things definitely ebb and flow over the years. Especially, it seems, when it comes to restaurants. Person that told me about it maybe hasn’t been there in a few years.

Sounds good and thanks again for the suggestions. Sounds like it could be a damp one up there this weekend. Hope not too much. Need to get a few things done outdoors and some fishing would be nice. toast

Erik, sounds like your close to Georgenes Haven Resort. Great old guy, I have stayed with them a few times. We didn’t make it up there this year, Bowstring can be a fun lake to fish.

Just got back. Lot of leaves still hanging. If you did see and flush a grouse you had a split second or they were gone. Went fishing Wednesday and got some fish but all catch and release. Thursday was so windy I pulled the boat.

Did see a bear grouse hunting Friday. waytogo that was cool , also deer stands are ready to go!! waytogo

Great photo! It was amazing to see how much more color appeared from Wednesday to Sunday up there last week. Just beautiful right now in Itasca and Aitkin counties.

Glenn or others from the area, I was wondering if anyone one knows of a contractor in the area that would plow our driveway. I bought a cabin near Dixon lake and the guy that used to plow in the area around our cabin is no longer doing it. I did a search online and can’t locate anything.

I’d really prefer that we don’t have to snowblow when we want to use it in the winter.

    Thanks

I personally don’t know any in that area. I’d start by maybe asking at Dixon lake resort, or if you come up through deer river ask at Fred’s bait.

Even hit the gas station in squaw lake or fishtails next door

I have talked to Dixon lake resort owners and they are not interested in plowing for hire. Can’t blame them as it sounds like they stay pretty busy with cabin rentals, spear house rentals and plowing their own access roads in the winter. They nor any of the neighbors we have talked too know anyone that does. Sounds like lots of people in the area have been looking since the one hung it up.

Good point on asking other local establishments. I’ll give that a shot.

If anyone else has any leads please let me know.

All the places up there have these bulletin boards as you walk-in. Put an ad up in these places.

One place I forgot about was the gosh dam place, there’s a lot of traffic through that place, And the bait gas shop just south of it

I was up last week and weekend. Bowstring was low…couldn’t get my 18.5′ boat off the bunks at either launch on the north end. Dock was still in over by Geiger’s. Not at the NE access.

Good luck! I’ll be up Friday. Hosting a buddy and his nephew who’ll be out chasing the turdy pointer too. jester

Quite a few birds around this year. We saw several last weekend. Do you still bird hunt during firearms deer season? I was planning to take a couple of weeks off and start up again over Thanksgiving weekend weather permitting.

ii heard some interesting info deer hunting. a group of hunters that hunt in the same general area i do, and i know them well stay at geigers resort on bowstring.

we got to talking a few things, i brought up i think Geigers is the only resort that plows roads on the lake from that end, and that they had a webcam i like to watch come ice season, anyway he said he didn t think the way it sounded she was not going to do that anymore because she didnt like doing it. also sounded like they were closing up shop after deer hunting. the guy said she sounded like she wanted to make the resort some kind of bread and breakfast. coffee

That sucks to hear Glenn. I have not ice fished it yet, but was planning on trying it. Is there anyone that plows roads to decent areas that I could get a wheel house or two out of?
