    Hello All,
This happens too much, and is obviously a good thing, but I am asking what is the best way to get out of your stand in the evening, when there are multiple deer in the area?

Last night I was in the stand, and had Does all around me feeding in a bean field, and where not going anywhere. I know every situation is different. What I did this time was sneak down my stand with out any of them seeing, and tried to get away from the stand a little before busting them up, do you think that this has any effect on them. At least none of them where my target bucks.

How do you guys deal with this situation?

    Thanks in advance, Alex

I’m sure everyone has a different strategy on this but if theirs no other way to get out without spooking them I’ll wait until it’s dark out. Well past shooting light and have all my stuff packed up and ready to go then slowly exit the area. I think it’s more of if the deer know you are a human they can be a little hesitant to come back but if they just hear something walking around and can’t see or smell it they high tail it out of there and will come back.

I hunt a small plot of land that’s mostly all trees. At about 7:14 on Saturday (4 minutes of shooting time left), I spotted a nice 8 about 40 yards behind me. He slowly came around and walked past my lane at about 7:25. I couldn’t shoot but didn’t want to spook him, so I stayed there for an additional half hour and slowly creeped out of the stand and to my truck. I HATE having to exit the stand after shooting time when you have deer in your immediate vicinity, I try to let them move on before I make the move.

I have used several tactics. Sometimes I text someone to come out with a wheeler and pick me up. The deer are used to leaving the field and returning when the wheeler is gone so they don’t get that spooked. I have also snorted several times to get them to leave or used a yote call, then when they exit the field I creep down and get out of there. I have spent many nights tripping thru the woods in the dark trying to stay down wind and out of site so I don’t spook them.

If your on a field its always nice if someone can pull up with a vehicle. I usually try to hunt the trails going to the food so your at least 50 yards off the field, this way when you get down nice and slow they don’t get spooked.

Merican Eagle- where were you hunting at that 7:25 was after shooting hours? Most places in Minnesota that time would have been sundown so you were good for a half hour yet.

The “distract them with a vehicle” tactic is what we’ve used before. Anywhere there is vehicle traffic and farm equipment, I think the deer learn that it’s a nuisance, not a threat. As long as they get out of the way, it won’t harm them, so they move off but aren’t frightened by it.

Just having someone slowly approach the area with a vehicle, ATV, or even a tractor gives the deer time to figure out that something’s coming and get out of the way without causing panic.

I have heard of guys using a slingshot to fire marbles in a direction away from the stand. Just enough noise to get the deer uncomfortable and to move off, but since they don’t smell or see any danger and don’t associate the noise with the area where the stand is, the tactic didn’t seem to put the deer off of the area.

As others have said, every situation’s different.

Where were you hunting? Where I was in western WI it was legal shooting until 7:40
