Just got a Minn Kota powerdrive and was wondering how I should mount it. It is a little bit of a tricky spot since I have a set of heads right off the front. I kind of see how I would like to mount it but I hate how much it hangs off the front of the boat. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to slide the motor backwards into the boat into another lockable position so it is out of the way when not in use. I have the Minn Kota slide mount I was thinking about jury rigging something to work. Any ideas or has anyone already done something like this?

The base unit is not really designed as a two position unit. The motor is designed to be entirely removed from the mount for storage when you are not using it. If you want a base unit that provides you with a “storage position” you COULD mount a second base inline with the primary base. This would give you enough track length to position the motor unit in a “retracted” mode while still giving it enough support.

Minn kota has a quick release that is designed to slide back up to 6″ (mka 47). Little spendy but might do the trick for you.

Drill a new hole for a pin or

Mount something for the motor to attach to when slid back.
