Bow mount Helix moving from spot to spot

With our new boat I’m rigging up 2 Helix 10s and a Ulterra with the integrated DI transducer. My plan was to move one of the units from the console to the bow when we are fishing at the bow. Do you have to turn these units off every time you want to move spots when you stow your TM?

No. I would turn them off before unhooking the power chord when moving from console to bow though

    Hi Pat,

Thanks, ya I would turn them off before moving them from one location to another.

I was just surprised when I asked hummingbird that they said the following

“With the Helix using the trolling motors transducer and stowing the trolling motor, this will cause the transducer to “air ping”, send readings through the air, that could damage the transducer and possibly the unit. We recommend turning the sonar off in the model when trolling motor is stowed.”

I’ve never had 2 graphs before but find it hard to believe guys run up to the bow to turn off that unit every time they are running to another spot close by.

S8nce I can see my bow unit from the console easily, I turn it to a wider map view when running spot to spot. Console unit is zoomed in and I have the split screen with 2d running. Few lakes I hit often has a lot of prop eaters and it is easier to navigate through that way

Interesting. You can turn off just the sonar but keep the unit on. Also the newer Helix units have a “sleep” setting that you can set it to by pressing the power button, which is also how you turn the sonar off.

My units are connected via ethernet. I will just switch back and forth from the MK universal to the transom mount and leave the unit on.
    No air pinging.
