On the search for Henry McKenna 10YR or Blanton’s. Gonna try Chicago Lakes liquor or DT Whole Foods Saturday. Any tips buys ya bunk on the ND wheelhouse trip, women not included.

Also, without reading thru all the pages on this thread, was there an app that assisted in the search for the harder to find pours? Might be mistaken. Thanks.

The last time I saw Mckenna 10 was at Liquor Warehouse was at Total Wine. You can check their website and you can search the store inventory as well. Sometimes you can score some solid pick ups that way.

Can get you a McKenny 10 easy near me. They have gone up to around 65ish from what I’ve seen. Blanton’s is gonna be a right place at the right time sort of thing.

Thanks for all the advice. Got lucky and found a Henry McKenna 10 at Elevated in White Bear Lake. Out of the store for $80. I think that’s a lil high but saved me a trip into the cities and I guess opportunity cost. They had Blanton’s and EH Taylor as well, but the prices were a bit (way) high. Got what I was looking for.

Guess I’m gonna have to stop in there more…..I wouldn’t pay those prices though unless I was pretty desperate. I hate when they price gouge.

Jesus, 299 for blantons and 199 for eagle rare… They can keep em, and continue their museum. Places like this don’t deserve your business.

Exactly. If that’s what they are selling those for that’s outrageous and they are just making things worse for consumers.

It’s just supply and demand, as soon as bourbon falls out of popular flavor or people stop paying these outrageous prices it should come back to somewhat reasonable. People are out here hoarding bourbon like TP in 2020. rotflol I picked up some 4 Roses Small Batch for $28 this weekend at Total Wine, and it’s pretty dang smooth. Total Wine guy also laughed when I asked about any of the Buffalo Trace bourbons (BT, Eagle Rare, Weller, Blanton’s etc), sounds like the few they do get in are gone before they hit the floor.

Its not even bourbon as a whole thats popular. Its mainly guys that dont know enough and just follow the BT products craze and way over pay for it just to sit on a shelf collecting dust. I mean just old weller 107 used to be $25. Try finding that anywhere.

You mean the guys that are buying Buffalo Trace like it’s Blantons to the point where stores are only keeping one bottle of it on the shelf? I still think it’s BS that stores price gouge. When uninformed consumers see those prices they automatically put more worth into those bottles that should be $46 like ER or $56 like Blantons and continue to hurt the possibility of a return to common sense.

    Freaking joke.

Its pretty insane. Ive pretty much stopped “hunting” bourbon at this point. All of the better places I used to be able to grab rare bottles from have starting doing bundles or selling them for way more than they are worth. Realized im competing with guys that will stop at 2-5 stores over lunch every day just to check for anything allocated.

Just for comparison sake, when Total Wine gets Mckenna 10 in stock, it sells for $40.

On the way back from the Dominican I swung thru Duty Free to see if there were any deals, they had a ton of Blanton…and likely will continue to at $180 USD a bottle. They also had Buffalo Trace liters for $32 which I thought was reasonable, but I already have some and didn’t want to lug it around.

That is reasonable, and would have taken advantage myself. I’m down to my last bottle. I picked up Rabbit Hole Boxergrail Rye, paid $55. I like it, not sure its worth the money but wanted to try it. Would recommend if a guy doesn’t mind the cost.

I am a fan of Traverse City bourbon. It doesn’t have an outrageous price point and is very smooth. It is 80 proof so it doesn’t whack you too hard.

If you’re paying anything over $30 for regular Buffalo Trace you are part of the problem. And if your reasoning is you can’t ever find it for less, buy some other bourbons at that $30 or less price point that are just as good if not better.

I don’t think the days of under $30 Buffalo Trace are ever coming back Mahto. There’s just too much demand. And I’d take Buffalo Trace over a lot of other bourbons priced higher, but I also agree there are some that are as good or similarly good around $30. I mean I’d buy and drink the $32 liter of BT, over the $180 750 ml Blanton’s, sure Blantons is a little better but it’s not 5x imo.

Got some last week at my store in my town for $26 like I have for the past few years. It’s not always there, but when it is, it’s the correct price. That wasn’t directed at you by the way. Just a soapbox rant.

Made a pretty good haul this past Saturday. I have only had the regular Benchmark 8. Hopefully these are just as good or better.

My wife and I like to mix the bourbon cream with root beer. Comes out like a good root beer float. Got the idea from a tour at Buffalo Trace.

Benchmark also has a Small Batch and Full Proof, which is bottled at 125 proof. I recently picked up the whole lineup and will be trying one of these nights, if the wife lets me. jester toast

i’ve long suspected that i’m part of the problem.
of course, these are SiB, so maybe i can get a $0.49 extension?

Nice! I’ve yet to find a store pick of BT.. Would be fun to do a side by side and compare.

I think over half of my recent bottles have been store picks, I haven’t noticed the difference.

The one store pick I found to be different is Knob Creek 12 year. My local liquor barrel did a store pick and it was extremely good. I thought quite a bit better than the regular.
