I tried 1 oz of Chivas 25 year @ $44 neat. Not impressed. I felt the 12 year was more smooth. I guess the extra 13 years in the barrel gave it more flavor that I didn’t care for. At over $300. I can live with the 12 year.

I find that to be true for most whisky for my taste Brian. More than a few brands that offer different releases of different ages hit the sweet spot at 12 years in my opinion. Past that, for me, I feel they get over-oaked. Not a bourbon but one of my favorite scotches is McCallan. The 12 year Sherry Oak seems to be just perfect, smooth on the palate and finishes great. I’ve had a couple bottles of 18 for twice or almost 3 times the price (I’m sure close to $300 now) and given the choice if they were both put in front of me neat in a lowball I’d take the 12.

Another example is the Pappy Lineup. I was fortunate enough to go to a tasting at Ace Spirits (bottle shop heaven) that had the entire lineup of Pappy from the Old Rip 10, Pappy 12, 15, 20 & 23. The presenter had said the general opinion from people that the 15 was the favorite, even over the 20 and 23. After we were done, without taking pricing into consideration, I agreed that i preferred it over the 20/23 but by a fair margin I preferred the 12. I’d be happy to partake in any of them at any time, none were unpleasant smile

Here is a rare picture I took you won’t see very often and a pic of Aces wall of whisky.

    Ace Spirits huh?
I need to get over there and when I was down in Bourbon country I asked a connoisseur if he had to pick his favorite what would it be.
It would be the middle bottle of your lineup

Boats, is that your lineup??? Cuz i’m comin over

Not my lineup but that’d be one way to make friends. That was the lineup at the tasting I went to. Check their website. Nothing scheduled now but they do have somewhat regular tastings. Scroll down to see the tasting schedule. You can get on their mailing list too.

Not just whisky, they have a great selection of tequila, vodka, brandy etc.

Thanks BHM! I have an empty spot in the floating camper and I’ll have to fill it with McCallan’s.

You haven’t led me astray yet!!

I enjoy Bourbon and Rye whiskeys. Agree with many recommendations here. Bulliet, Four Roses, and Makers Mark are my regulars.

    Reserve Bourbon

I like it better then Basil-Haden, but with a price tag of $15 more, I think I’ll stick the BH.

I am enjoying a bottle of Rowan’s Creek from Willett Distillery. A little lower price point than the Willett Pot Still Reserve but still good.

Nice John, Willet is very solid. I had heard people say that Larceny bourbon was a good cheap option and my local shop had it on sale for $20 so I figured I couldn’t pass it up. Much better than I expected for that price point. Low 90s proof, solid flavor and just an easy drink for a $20-$25 bourbon. Good for mixed drinks as well.

Had a friends weekend and my buddy brought part of his collection for sampling. That Bookers is damn good, and was my favorite. On a related note my headache is gone now!

Any where from a Mason jar to Waterford crystal. Hell I’d even use an old spam can.

My pinky is up unless the bottle is plastic. Otherwise you look like a snob.

Never tried those cigars. Are they flavor infused or the good side of the Drew Estate factory?

My pinky goes up automatically, but I have no class and I either drink from a bottle or the Mason jar. Either way first and second drink are straight from the lips of the bottle

Don’t know, that question is way over my head.
Just know they are a smooth, medium cigar that burns well. I take a couple inhales and enjoy that, in the morning they don’t give me a cigar hangover.

Very worthwhile bottle if you get a chance to grab one. I disliked it neat, but absolutely loved it on a rock.

No pinkies were harmed in the drinking of this bourbon.
