What’s the best, or in your opinion, the best bourbon available on the shelves?

For the past year I’ve been drinking Maker’s Mark and just love it! BUT, I’m always open to new ideas.

So what is/are the best out there? Expensive or “cheap”….. just looking for good and smooth!

There’s a huge thread (12+ pages) with suggestions. I tried linking it here but gave up after the 3rd round of captcha crap and the link not showing up. Maybe next year will be the year that’s fixed on IDO?

You will find it with the search function

Have you tried Woodford Reserve ? Super smooth !! If I am going to mix I go for Jack or Jim Beam. Would not waste Woodford on a mixed drink !!!

I usually drink Woodford but the Kirkland bourbon at Costco is surprisingly good.

Makers seems a bit too sweet for me. If you’re a Costco member you can’t beat the Jim Beam bourbon. I’m also a fan of Knob Creek. Try it with a bit of Dr Pepper. Nothing better.

Redwood Empire is starting to show up in more MN stores. The “pipedream” is a real hidden gem for $40. I could see it becoming a hunted bottle if it catches on. I haven’t had a chance to try their other offerings yet.

1792 small batch is another great pour you can find most places for $30 and under.

The nice thing about Costco liquors is you don’t have to be a member. The Woodford 1.75 is only $50 while the other stores near me are selling it for $65 and up.

I sipped a knob creek 100 proof and the maple last night. Very good.

For bottles that are findable id say either normal angels envy (if you like sweeter) or Elijah craig

Woodford Double Oak is insanely good. Usually goes for about $60/bottle but very worth it. Mixing a drink with it would be a sin.

The Kirkland is bottled by 1972 so I imagine it is the same stuff, and yeah not bad.

In MN it is against the law to have a membership to buy liquor. So Sam’s Club or Costco are fair game for everyone.

I picked up a bottle of Eagle Rare and white label Penelope this past Saturday. They were both really good

There are many others out there, but my current ranking is as follows:

    Woodford Reserve
    Whistle Pig
    High West
    Angel’s Envy
    Buffalo Trace
    Bulleit

Anyone tried the Whistlepig Piggyback Bourbon yet? Got a bottle for my bday but haven’t cracked it open yet.

Another one I’ll add to the list of relatively easy to find and affordable is Larceny. Very tasty.

That’s a solid list Frydog, I personally did not care for the High West, only had a sample at the liquor store though. Will have to try Whistle Pig. Anyone had Rabbit Hole? I just started seeing it.

If you really want to dive down the rabbit hole that is bourbon, go to https://www.breakingbourbon.com and go to their reviews. Extremely helpful to figure out what bottle you might want to try next.

Here are my five favs (not the most expensive or sought after, and in no particular order):

    1. Woodford Double Oaked
    2. Blantons
    3. Weller Antique 107
    4. Old Forrester 100 (best value in bourbon)
    5. Eagle Rare

Larceny is definitely in the best value in bourbon category.

Cabin Still. Very smooth and you won’t believe the price.

Cantilever distillery turned me from a beer ONLY guy to being able to sip bourbon on occasion, usually to celebrate a dead buck or around the holidays if the kids are in bed. Makers mark us good too and not so expensive, but I’ve been trying to take notes from the threads on here for different bottles to try. Problem is I go through it slow so a bottle darn near lasts me 6-8 months.

I know what you mean though it is crazy how many bottles are on the shelf now. What to try next?

I used to think this way… BUT I’ve come around to the idea that people should enjoy their whiskey (or anything else that doesn’t affect me) however they want. And if they wanna dunk a few ice cubes and some Coca Cola in there, then more power to them as long as they are lovin it.
