Bought oil. Got screwed.

Well here’s a new one for me at least. I bought several gallons of oil to do oil changes on my truck and my sister’s suv. The best price on Mobil One products is always at Walmart so that’s where I head.

I was doing oil changes and the first five quart jug was fine. Went to add oil from the second jug and as soon as I opened it I knew I got screwed. Some douche nozzle had put used oil in the jug and returned it.

Luckily I noticed that the foil seal wasn’t intact and I immediately knew what happened before I started pouring it in.

I was actually surprised that this has never happened before to me. Seems like just the kind of scam that some jerk bait would pull and I’m surprised it took this long considering the amount of oil I buy.

Anybody else had this happen to them?

Just a warning to everybody out there that buys oil to watch out for this little scam. Check the seal and make sure everything you buy has the foil seal intact or has not had the lid removed.

Seems like just the kind of stunt people of Walmart would pull. Pretty smart for your average Walmart shopper tho. Makes me think they did it for more than one jug.
I used to change my oil and almost always went to Walmart too for the same reasons. I’m burned out doing it myself anymore but never ran into this scam in 20 plus years.

This happens to me quite often with products.

Just got some small t shelf brackets for the kiddos dressers and they took 2 and left the other 2 in package. No idea till I got home.

15ga nail sleeves they’ve replaced with roofing nails. That was fun to find out on job.

List goes on, my luck smash

Was the seal ring broken when you bought it ?

Like milk, pop and other stuff … I guess I always look at the security ring.

Now if they managed to open it without breaking the seal ring … more power to them.

Ya I was thinking the same thing. You insult the people that shop walmart about how terrible they are. Then you admit shopping there yourself. What does that say about you then. For the record we do a lot of shopping at walmart (wish it wasn’t as much as it but). Not always our first choice but living in the area we do, we don’t have a ton of choices either.

Any body that has dealt with returns at a retail store comes away believing there are very few honest people in this world.

yep, nothing surprises me anymore, I have seen old brake shoes returned as the wrong ones and a refund was made in full and it was discovered too late.
At wally world I have seen the better quality oil filters switched with the cheap ones and bought for less money.

sometimes saving money isnt worth it, buy from the local guy and support him instead, it will pay you dividends down the road.

It happen to me but, not with oil it was a big shop vac. They open it from the bottom and it was used in sewer water from a basement I think. They put it back in the box and sealed the bottom back up and returned it to Farm and Fleet. Sweet A-holes.

I bought a video game from Walmart for my nephew. It was plastic sealed. Gave it to him for a present and when he opened it, it was a DVD of some movie I never heard of. Guess who has never been back to Walmart. coffee

I’ve never had this happen with oil but I will be more vigilant now. Lately I have been buying the 12qt box wine mobil1 and I think it would be more difficult for someone to pass them off as unused. I have had a few issues getting boxes with the wrong item or garbage stuffed back in the box at Walmart. I also bought a vacuum sealer from cabelas last November that someone used the roll of included bags to package their meat and threw it back in the box covered in shmoo and returned it. The customer service lady was not surprised at all. I was out 40 miles of driving and and hour of my time, pretty disappointing, not with cabelas but with people.

A Schaefer’s truck stops by the buildings twice a year and we stack up our rack. No worries about that return BS and we’re never out of oil for anything imaginable.

…not to mention it’s an all around superior product waytogo

Happened to me but not with oil.
Took 2 pair of arch supports off a rack in a shoe store. Opened 1 box to make sure they fit my shoes. They were perfect. When I got home the 2nd box had used supports in them. doah

It nearly happened to me once when I was going to buy some synthetic Yamaha oil
To change the oil on my four stroke outboard. Luckily I noticed the jug was a little dirty and upon closer inspection I discovered it had been opened and was indeed used oil in the jug. This was at a marine dealer and they weren’t too happy. However it was pretty easy for them to track down the person that “returned” that jug a few days prior.

Yesterday some 20yo kids ran out of gas on their Sea Doos in Prescott, No wallet.
Ran into them at gas station when i was buying worms, they wanted to exchange cash for Venmo. I said i’ll do you one better, hang out on the dock for 25 minutes and i’ll be there with gas.
I ran home, got the boat with a spare can, and filled them doo’s up Free of charge. They made it back to Hudson….

    I’m a walmart shopper.

It’s amazing how we call 20 year old’s “kids”. That was a stand up job on your part I hope the young adults return the favor in the future.

It happens at all retail stores, not just Wal-mart. I bought a Ceiling Fan from Lowes a couple months ago – supposedly new. Box was fine from the outside. When I got home and began the install, I could see it was clearly a return-item. Things were packed wrong, parts out of their individual packaging, etc. I tried to sort out everything to see if all the stuff was there and found several small pieces missing and then saw the glass was cracked on the light cover. Clearly someone bought it (I’m guessing someone with zero mechanical inclination) tried to install it themselves and it all went south. They then just tried to return it hoping customer service would take their word that they “bought the wrong one.” Well, they did, and back on the shelf it went. I made it a point to tell them to NOT put it back on the shelf when I exchanged it.

I posted about windshield wipers here years ago. A “person” saw it and said, “Go to Walmart, get the best wipers blades you can find, then after replacing your old ones, put them into the new packaging. Then return them.”

Certainly told me what kind of a person they were.
