Bottom Bouncing Rods – Cheap

I know how to use the search function and realize a topic was posted on the topic of bottom bouncing rods not too long ago.

With that being said, I’m looking to pick up a couple rigs that will be used exclusively for bottom bouncing in 10-20′ of water. I know you get what you pay for, but I don’t see the value in paying $100+ for a bouncing rod. It’s not a primary tactic for me. I’d rather get the high end rods for my jigging and rigging sticks.

What is out there for a limber bouncing rod combo for under $100?

Why not just buy a medium bait casting bass setup? That’s basically what the bouncing setup is.

I bought an inexpensive abu Garcia setup a couple years ago for $75 total and have used it for bouncing and Dubuque rigging.

Yup I agree on this. 13 makes many rods at that 100 dollar mark that are solid bass rods and can be used to drag bottom bouncers

I like the Berkley Lightning Rod 7′ Medium Moderate Fast Casting Rod for pulling bouncers at those depths.

Pair that with a reel with a flipping switch and you’ll have a nice combo. The flipping switch feature is getting harder to come by. The last ones I bought were made by Quantum but I fear they may have been discontinued.

The Okuma Dead Eye DE-CBR-861M-T cost $75. I did find a couple on sale for $50 at fleet farm one time. 8’6” long when extended, medium power with a mod. fast action and light tip, lure weight ½ to 3 oz.

I enjoy my cabelas prodigy but I’m not sure who makes them any more.

Yesterday I picked up 2 7′ Fenwick Medium Fast casting rods for $70/each and then picked up two Scheels reels for $50/each (marked down from like $90 or something). Got them for the same set up you’re looking for.

I agree with Tom ^ I just got 2-7′ Fenwicks @ 20% off last weekend down here at the Fishermans Swap Meet.

    Fenwick

What really surprised me was the curve of the rod when under load was spread out more in this rod as compaired to the same rod in the medium.

I mainly purshased these for bank salmon fishing come the Oct skys in Algoma WI. That was why I wanted the load to be more evenly distributed. I’m thinking that they may double as my bottom bouncer rods @ Oahe in June.

This is what I do. I use my bass rods for bottom bouncing. They are super sensitive and already in the boat.

I often use my longline linecounter trolling setups for 3way or pencil bouncing. The counters work great for running 5+ setups in a boat.

Same here, my longline rods are 2 old Ugly Stick CAL1100 and 2 Shimano TDR, probably spent $150 total on all 4. When I’m bouncing the rods are usually in the holders the whole time so I don’t worry about anything fancy.

I was able to get the quantum reels with flipping switch through cabelas a few weeks ago. Haven’t tried but seems like a great feature.

I bought the eyecon bounce and troll so I have more versatility.

The bounce n troll is my primary bouncer rod and doubles as a inside trolling rod with a #17 sealine.
