I like a 7′ MH with a fast tip…. I run a couple different ones but I like the scheels outfitter tournament series rods the best for what I have. Not the higest $$ rod I have but it is the one I like the most. Regular price is $120 but they put them on sale for $90 a couple times a year… Next time they do I will be picking up another one. For a reel I like abu revos… I have a silver max that is just is good for half the money, but I am waiting for it to fail. The drag system is not good on the silver max line as the revos, but my silver max has held up so far.

You mentioned the bounce and troll, I had one in my hand at cabelas last weekend… seemed realy nice, but I hate the split grip that many of the rods are going to. Not sure what it is but it drives me nuts. If it were not for that I would likely got with it for my second instead of another scheels rod.

Let us know what you decide and how you like it!!

I was also looking at getting a trolling setup for bottom bouncers this year as well. what I am planning on getting is the St Croix Eyecon trolling rod in 7ft medium power moderate action. the two reels I was looking at were the cabela’s depth master III trolling reel or a Diawa Accudepth Plus-B reel. I’m new to this whole trolling game so wanted to get a setup that wouldn’t break the bank. If anyone has used these reels or rod would love to hear how they perform.

Quantum Accurist is best option IMO for a flipping switch. $100 reel. Way better than the Abu silvermax. For a rod you want either a fast action or moderate fast. I prefer moderate fast so I can lay my rod tip back once I feel a bite and let the get the full bait inhaled before I set the hook with a long sweeping action. My favorite bouncing rod is a 7’6″ MH mod fast fenwick.

I wouldn’t suggest a line counter reel for bottom bouncers. If you want an inexpensive setup just to try it out, go with the silver max combo. I think cabelas has them on sale for $50. Ive got a couple of these setups for friends to use and they work great for the price. Im sure they wont last forever but the medium action rod works well for 2oz bouncers and will still work ok for 3oz. Also, the reel has the flippin switch. Ive got the quantum accurist reels on my nicer bouncer setups and the reel is definitely nicer and can be found for about $60-70 on ebay. Best rods ive used have been the st croix rods with medium actions. Medium power will work up to 2oz but the Medium-Heavy works perfect for 2-3oz bouncers. I like the 7 footers.

I have bounce and toll and love it if I am holding the rod. However I usually use my compre trolling rods in the holders. Longer rods get bait away. Both work very well just make sure it is a med action moderate. You want the rod to load up or you will pull a lot more hooks. I find holding the rod I miss more because I sweep the rod and not let it load up.

Scheels has great bottom bouncer rods at any price point you are looking for. I have a couple Walleye Series rods, but the tournament rods are nice too. Silvermax reels are a good reel for the price.

I have longer telescoping compre trolling rods with line-counters that I love for bottom bouncers. I often pull 4-8oz bouncers on them. The counter setups allow you to dial in 6 rods without worries of tangled lines.

Thanks for the help guys. If I wanted to troll crank baits with the same rod would the line counter reel be a good choice then? I kind of want to get one all around rod that I could do most applications with. I guess for that, what would your suggestions be? Trolling spinners, bottom bouncers, cranks and what ever else you could tie onto the end of the line.

Really like my Eyecon bounce and troll. Doubles for an inside trolling rod too. I bought my first and last Silver Max. The casting button sucks, short travel and too heavy of a spring. Not a good bouncer reel IMO, especially for reef fishing. I run a Daiwa 17LC Sealine on my Eyecon.

I run line counters on my trolling rods they work great with bouncers. On my eyecon I have a standard low profile Baitcaster. If you are thinking about running cranks too buy the line counters and use a trolling rod. It will work just fine. Get two setups for the money. I would upgrade to the sea lines from Diawa or the better shimano tecotas the 300 series is a great size. the accudepths plain just wear out too soon. It is worth the extra money.

Thanks for all the help. Gonna go with the 7ft MHM Bounce and Troll Eyecon with a quantem accurist reel. Usually a shimano guy but gonna give the quantem a try. Mostly gonna be used bottom bouncing the big pond. Gonna pick up two of the 10ft6 eyecon trolling rods with shimano tekotas for pulling leadcore. Heard good things about that setup! What does everyone else use for leadcore reels? Sealine? Okuma? Tekota?

You will be happy with that set up I am sure… I have an accurist too… It is a great reel, I forgot all about it till you guys brought it up. I took it off a scheels rod that I broke and put it on my shelf a couple years ago. I am going to have to get a rod for it now.
