+3 on the no hats & sunglasses.
I also try to avoid lines with female border guards. The ones I’ve seen (International Falls) seem to have an attitude like they have something to prove, so I try to just avoid that whole drama.

My experiences at I-Falls have greatly varied. An older truck of mine had an open box but had a bolt-in aluminum toolbox and for the 2 years I had that truck when we crossed, we got searched going in, and 1 year got searched coming home. Could be the truck or crossing at 12PM (1 year when searching they found a bunch of magazines from a passenger, he said they could keep them if they let us pass, it worked….)
Since then and for the past 8 years taking my own boat, have had no issues (crossing at 6AM). We open the boat cover and box cover before getting there.

A buddy of mine wants to go on a Canadian trip. He got a DUI about 20 years ago and I keep telling him that can cause a problem at the border getting into Canada even though he hasn’t drank alcohol since then.Do any of you know a lawyer I can refer him to to get classified as rehabilitated?
The best thing is to have him apply for a NEXUS card. 50 bucks. Both countries review and have to approve the applicant. If he’s approved for nexus, he’s good to go.
Thanks, I’ll pass that along.

I’ve seen some ridiculous comments on this forum recently but this takes top honors.
Looks like as long as the misdameaner DUI was over 10 years ago he should be eligable for that NEXUS card.
Eligibility following contravention

I must respectfully disagree. The Canadian female border guards have been wonderful over the years and I have driving thru Intl Falls to go fishing since the 1970s. They ask me the purpose of my trip and I tell them to fish out the lakes. They laugh and wave me thru. The US border guards are a different matter.
I grew up in Canada until college and lived here since. I have crossed that border 100s of times. My experiences have ranged from a guy waving me through without talking to me at all to having every single thing pulled out of my car and searched. I have never noticed any rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes lucky, sometimes not
