6 years ago bil and I went to RR in the spring. Wanted a RABC permit. Went to the Canadian border crossing office to get it. When we went inside and walked up to the counter for paperwork 4 officers pretended to be busy. Waited 15 minutes before anyone spoke to us. Finally 1 officer grunts “What ya want?” No may I help you or anything. Well we get the form from him with directions to fill it out and go to the end of the counter. So we did that. Wait another 15 minutes. Same 4 guys are busy again. We are the only other 2 people in this room! Finally a woman officer comes out, sees us and asks us what we need. Tell her we have RABC form filled out and waiting. She tells us the counter we need to go to is in the next room! We get our passes and on our way out I ask where to buy Canadian fishing license. Same 4 guys tell us they have no idea where to get a Canadian fishing license. What a bunch of arrogant pr__ks. flame Stopped at a NAPA store and they told us where the Bait shop was.

A fly in is on my bucket list but if I have to go through that again Canada can kiss my behind.

I’m sure sometime somewhere you ran into a local cop or game warden or public official who was having a bad day who pissed you off also. If you don’t want to go to Canada don’t, just don’t paint the whole country with the same broad brush. After all, (the whole world knows) there is nothing more privledged than a arrogant American. jester

Have to weigh in finally- guys/gals doing a job. Not always glamorous but vital.
Are there bad apples – yes. As Dutchboy says, at some point in time you will run into someone/s having a bad day. Maybe they all were on rotations to start the night shift the next day – who knows. I get that same experience at Home Depot, Comcast, Menards, DMV……
Canada is Canada. I enjoy the -ell out of it. Remote – see 4 boats in 4 days I consider it busy. No one bugging me on non-existent cell service, off the grid… Could go on and on. Worst experience with Game wardens or police hunting or fishing was in MN. Canada has been very good so far.
I got a shot because I wanted to. Wanna make me show a card to prove it that may be another story but not for this thread.
Looking forward to going again. I am legal, take care of business and enjoy the people I meet there.

I didn’t realize they were restricting movement from one province to another too. That is very strict.

Thats part of the problem, nobody knows what is going on, all they know is that Canada is closed and they are losing their fishing trip. While it’s certainly an inconvenience, thats all it is. I don’t think anybody here had bought a camp in Canada 2 years ago and is losing everything. Sit back and relax, Canada will open when it opens.

I was actually in Canada Saturday morning for a brief time. No issues because the Canadians could not enter this small area without essential designation. Coming back into the USA was pretty quick no-lines.

It was kind a cool being in Canada – even though access beyond this small area was not allowed…

Dutch I didn’t paint the whole country as bad. Yes I have ran into a CO, cop, official that was having a bad day. There WERE 4 GUYS there that were making it miserable for 2 US citizens that wanted to spend $$$ for their economy.
Everyone else I have ever met in Canada were extremely friendly.
Just saying border officials whether Canadian or US do not, should not need to be a$$es all the time.
Also don’t see why you think I’m a “privileged arrogant American” when I just told my experience.

My best Canadian game warden experience: my wife and I were out fishing on our last day in Canada. This is the day we load up to take some delicious meat for home. I hit my spots for eaters and we did quite well. We need 1 more slot walleye and couldn’t get it as a thunderstorm rolled in. Instead of keeping the 1 under as this would be quite easy up there, I just let them go. We pull up to the dock at camp and as were getting off the boat the wardens are pouring on thinking they have us on something. I told them help themselves to the boat and welcomed them into my camp to look at the coolers. They measured every pike and walleye and were a bit disappointed to find every fish within the slot. They also were disappointed to find nothing but cold drinks in our cooler which they were offered up. This offer changed there demeanor along with all the legal fish in the box.
The boys left a bit disappointed.

Just read in the Toronto Star that border will NOT open on June 21.

Kinda obvious (to me) at this point since it’s June 17th and they haven’t announced a dang thing but thought I’d pass it along

I never thought it would open on June 17 or 21st. Said all along my thought was it open aug. 17 possibly sept. 17 at the latest. Only time will tell. If it opens I’m going. If it doesn’t no big deal either. Live goes on either way.

Shot was not “directed” at anyone – I just referenced it. I could care less who does and who does not. I am not in the “Pandemic” camp

I agree life goes on but our group has had reservations on the books for some time (like a lot of others) and currently our group is torn on waiting for Canada or going to Alaska. My vote is AK.

Lots of others with family and/or property so I think the news on it is relevant
