Boiled peanuts, I was in Macon Georgia working at a factory for a few days. First mistake……invited my guests to stop over at the hotel and you can bring his family by the pool. He looked at me and said…Kinna cold ain’t it. It was in January and apparently all hotels have outdoor pools. Next we went out for lunch and the guy asked if I ever had boiled peanuts. There was a guy in bibs with an older pickup truck, a small livestock tank with a propane heater. The water was black. He scooped us out a ladle of peanuts and put in a plastic bag then in a paper bag. They were horrible! Gave mine to the toothless guard at the plant, he loved them.

Love ’em. I’ve even made my own. The key is getting raw peanuts in the shell. Kinda hard to find in Iowa.

First experience was at a fruit stand on Merit Island Florida. The guy dipped a scoop into the crustiest crock pot I’ve ever seen and poured them into a large Styrofoam cup. Went back everyday we were there just for the boiled peanuts.

I figured if what ever grew in the crock pot didn’t kill me it would probably provide a lifetime of immunity to any number of diseases. So far so good.

I subscribe to the when in Rome rule so I would try one but I’d also feel compelled to dump half the can on the floor, you know, just to fit in.

Yes, the key is to find raw peanuts and cook them in a brine until they are al-dente.
