Was setup for a deer hunt, when I heard this little fellow come in behind me. Seen one last year turkey hunting but couldn’t get my camera out. Should’ve brought some cat nip and a ball of yarn with me. Area of sighting was northeast Iowa.

You didn’t ‘seen’ it, you ‘saw’ it. Simple grammar that IDO can’t seem to figure out.
Jimmy JonesPosts: 2910October 27, 2024 at 7:17 am #2296096Those are cool little cats. Nice pics of it. They can be hard on other wildlife, like nesting pheasants and grouse, but no worse than coons. I’d rather see bobcats than wolves or coyotes.
Thanks for sharing.
October 27, 2024 at 8:10 am #2296097My buddy just had one on his trail cam in Harris mn a couple days ago
27eyeguyPosts: 322October 27, 2024 at 8:16 am #2296099Nice, great pics also. I got a couple trail cam pics of one also.

I saw one about 10 years from my deer stand east of Leech Lake. They make almost no noise when they move.
isu22andyPosts: 1803October 27, 2024 at 8:33 am #2296102I killed two when I lived in Iowa . Thick as theives in the western part of the state now . Cool critters . Surprising how bad they stink. Only way I’d shoot another is if it was 30 plus pounds .

Before anyone gets a hankering to shoot one in Iowa;
(A) must have a fur harvesters license
(B) season does not open for a few more days (Nov 2nd opener)
(C) Northeast area of Iowa is a closed zone
(D) in the open zones for Bobcat, the season limit is 3 (not per day, for the entire season) in certain counties, within the counties open for hunting, only 1 bobcat per hunter, may be taken in that countyAt a maximum of 3 bobcat per season,,,,,,,,,, I don’t think “Thick as thieves in the western part of the state now.” is a very accurate statement.

Hey B. He Seen it. You did not. Do not correct his wording. Who cares except you? Nobody here. By they way, Moms says dinner is ready. Please wash up before you rise from the basement and join your parents for dinner.

The phrase “thick as thieves” means to be very close friends and share secrets.
You would need to ask ISU22andy how this applies to bobcats.
Thick as theives in the western part of the state now .
isu22andyPosts: 1803October 27, 2024 at 6:26 pm #2296177I have access to around 1000 acres of various sparsely wooded crop ground . Used to run 7-8 trail cameras on these . Every one of them had a cat on them at sometime. Some of them were miles apart . I know over a dozen people that have caught one or shot one . Any serious trapper has caught multiple . A lot of guys let them go anymore . I had one camera out last year , pair of twins on it . This wasn’t the case 10 years ago but as of lately . They aren’t a rarity . Not as thick as coyotes by any mean which really are thick as thieves .

That cat was shot with .17 hmr was 19 lbs . Shot raccoons bigger ha . Actually that spot was in an abandoned old junk yard next to town . There was a giant buck in there also I was after . First time I tried calling it there was a coyote I shot ha .

27eyeguyPosts: 322October 27, 2024 at 8:56 pm #2296200Must be rare in the South. We get a fair amount over 30 lbs and even some over 40 in Wisco.
27eyeguyPosts: 322October 27, 2024 at 9:02 pm #2296201That cat on the endgate is one pretty critter, don’t see many spotted up that nice in my neck of the woods.
