So who is getting the boat out again this weekend? Open water in December I consider the bonus round. Here are a few we found on the river last weekend. Dirty water and some flow had us finding fish behind the wingdams in less flow. Found a few more on shallow rocks feeding mid day. Looking forward to getting after them again this weekend. Good luck to anyone getting out.

Got half day work Saturday, then daughters tourney after, but Sunday and Monday are all mine. River always, but might even try Medicine or Eagle as well.

My batteries are charged and tank is full, I’ve been waiting a month to get out. Haven’t even tried out my redneck rod holder setup yet. El nino sure has got my back this year with me not being able to get out until now.

I was out last weekend on p2 and will be out Sat. Probably pool 2 again. Fishing was slow for me last weekend but it sure was good to get out. The little lake in my backyard had ice out this morning after a couple of weeks with ice on it.

Made it down to everts both yesterday and today. It was slower than its been for me since thanksgiving. Still boated about 30 fish yesterday in 7 hours and 17 today in 4 hours.

This weekends average size was down considerably (about 13″), likely a different class of fish moving up to the dam this week. Bites were much softer this weekend too, missed lots of bites and had myself wishing I still had braid on my jigging rods. I was vertical jigging btw, chartruese, white, purple fleck all had their moments as well as a variety of body styles, mostly fished moxies and flukes.

Next Sunday looks good for temps and sunshine which I think will help turn on with the vertical bite. After that, who knows? I know I’ll be ice fishing over xmas in duluth but I won’t “putting the boat away” anytime soon because I know I’ll regret it if I do.

The highlight of the weekend was my wife landing this 23.5″ 6.5lb one eyed fatty.

That is one fat fish Tim. The first picture of Ken is a nice 28.5″ we got Friday. Guessing it was well over 10#s. Maybe pushing 11. Very nice fish Ken.

Awesome fish guys!! woot yay toast

My outings got delayed as usual with series of unfortunate events. Wife’s van broke down leaving my truck as the official taxi for kids activities. Then the hockey player got a concussion yesterday which lead a trip to the ER. Oldest is getting 4 teeth pulled right now.

Not complaining, just hoping to see water before she freezes up.

Made it out yesterday on Lake Wisconsin. It was a slow bite but consistent, ended with 3 legal saugers out of 12 walleye/saugers caught. Air temp was low 40’s at the start, then the warm front came thru about noon, we could feel the air temp go up 10 degrees in a matter of minutes, the windshield on the boat instantly fogged up.

When that happened, the wind shifted and picked up withing another 5min and we didn’t get another bite for the next hour, called it quits then.

So who is getting back at the open water bite this weekend? Might even have to bust out some Christmas decorations for the boat this weekend. Last trip on pool 2 was between Christmas and New years last year. Looks like it might be pretty close to that this year.

Other then the next couple of days being cool, starting Sunday and as far out as the forecast goes, it looks to be highs in the mid 30s for St. Paul. The river stage at Hastings and Red Wing looks to be up a couple of feet and still climbing pretty fast but at St. Paul it only looks to be up about a foot or so. There’s not an updated river forecast for St. Paul or Red Wing. The St. Croix at Stillwater looks to be up a couple of feet also. I’m not sure how the higher water will effect fishing.

    Good Luck,

    Boone

Dan, I’m thinking if you were able to find fish around thanksgiving they’ll be right back in those spots.

Since Friday I’ve been moving back out of the heavy current to find em

Got out yesterday on pool 2. Pretty tough fishing for my boat this weekend. Snagged a bunch of Buffalo an other rough fish. No walleyes. Flow was on the way back down again but the water was still very muddy.

Anyone else have any luck over the weekend? Hope to get back out a time or two this week.

I spoke with a number of anglers at Everts on Saturday.

The Friday afternoon bite was a classic P4 bite. Hot!

On Saturday there were many very good sticks out there reporting a dead sea.

My dad and I were out on P2 snagging slimers with ya, Mike. No walleyes in the boat for us either. The fast dirty water didn’t seem to help our cause. Those Buffalo can sure put up a fight tho!

Anyone back at it today. Got the boat plugged in this morning and starting to clean the snow off of it. Hope to be chasing big eyes back on pool 2 this afternoon.
