boat / water shoes

Looking for a shoe that can; dry reasonably fast, breath on a hot day, and provide decent support. My feet are pretty beat up from playing sports my whole life standing in the boat barefoot makes for a miserable couple days of recovery. I have typically used flip flops with a good thick sole that contours my foot. I am looking for something a little more supportive than that. I have tried to just wear tennis shoes and try to keep them dry but that rarely works. Most of the research I do online ends up with some neon parade of crap. Has anyone had luck with a quality boat / water shoe?

Keen or Chaco offer good support.

I’ve never done the Keens so I can’t comment there, but I’m not much of a sandal guy to begin with. I’ve got the Columbia PFG Bahama Vents and love them; Not as fast drying as a flip flop but great support. The bottom has a mesh lining that drains water at a reasonable rate. I don’t run around in two feet of water with them, but great for getting in/out of the boat when landing on shore and whatnot.

    Chaco X2

X3 if your a sandal guy

I also have a couple pair of Reef flip flops. One of them actually has firm but good cushion for the heel. Better than the cheapos that damage your foot.

    I wear Keen’s all the time. I don’t like the H2O models.

Keens are great and fit the bill for what you are looking for. I have the H20 kind and love them

The only pair of Keens I’ve ever owned had the final eyelet made of plastic and it literally broke off the second or third time I tied the shoes. I exchanged them for a different brand that had metal eyelets.

Crocs. They are the best boat shoe imo, someone had to say it, and it’s not a fashion show in the boat. rotflol

yeah I have a pair of crocs and they aren’t too bad as boat shoes, I just don’t find them as comfortable as keens and the OP stated they wanted shoes that offered support which crocs do not around the ankle

Though I hate to admit, crocs get my vote. Walk around a hospital and you’ll see them everywhere and those people are on their feet.

I actually have a pair of croc sandals and they are great and serve as my boat shoe.

I picked up a pair of chaco sandles and flip flops from REI online last week for over 50% off. This was to replace my 17 year old chacos that are fine, but kinda small. Apparently your feet can smoosh and “grow” when you get old. Who knew?

I’ve had several pairs of crocs and also keens. I never wear the keens in my boat. Just make sure to replace the crocs when the tread wears off. They can get pretty slippery.

Or just leave the worn out ones in the bed of your truck at baypoint park, someone will steal them. I hope they slip on a patch of ice… jester

Crocs and Merrell get my vote. I have the Tetrex wrap sandals and love them. But I do find myself wearing my crocs more and more. I even got the fuzzy ones for winter time…I just opened myself up for ridicule, didn’t I?…

Reef for flip flops. Keen, Teva and numerous other make harder soled “active” style sandals that will suit your needs. I recommend going to store like scheels and trying a few on.

Crocs. Dry easy. Slip on and off easy. Comfortable. If you care what your shoes look like you’re on the wrong forum.
