Boat Tool Storage

I always have a small toolbox on the boat with me for any emergencies – pliers, zip ties, small rachet set, etc. I have the tools in a small tool box that tends to take on water anytime it rained. So then I wrapped the tool box in a garbage bag and that has worked out alright, but would like to upgrade.

I don’t have any storage room other then back of the boat where the gas tank and batteries are stored (16′ alumacraft), so slightly exposed to elements. Just wondering if anyone has any good ideas. Was thinking of trying to find some dry storage boxes or maybe wrapping the tool box in a dry storage bag?

HRG

Fleet Farm and I’m sure other places carry a Plano like the one above but it is taller for more stuff if you have the room to store it.

I have a bigger version of what HRG posted in both boats. Works great and seldom ever gets used but that is my thought, if I have it I won’t need it. Usually just buy cheap socket and wrench sets around the Hollidays and make up my own tool assortment.

Plano makes some nice orange storage boxes for the boat. They’re about $20.

My advice is use ‘cheap’ tools/supplies in the box – in case someone swipes your toolbox.

I actually don`t carry any anymore as these new outboards there is not much you can do on the water. The only thing I carry is zipties, plyers, sidecutters and propeller wrench even that since I use stainless props if I hit something that hard well the lower unit is most likely toast.
