What is the purpose of these holes found in each one of my boat’s strakes?

    Thanks

I would assume they’re to let water drain.

So correct me if I’m wrong, but the strake adds a structural value to the hull, but apparently must not be meant to seal, so a drain hole is added to prevent water trapped in the strake from freezing and warping the mating surfaces?

I’ve looked at the bottom of hundreds of aluminum boats. Never seen a hole drilled like that. Typically, water drains out the rear of the strake.

Is it possible that hole originates from the top side of the boat?

they are drains,in other boats that dont have holes, the back end is slightly open so water does not collect there and freeze in winter time.

my boat has both holes midway, and the back end is open,I am guessing this was done in case the boat was parked level and still had water in the strakes.

Although strakes may add strength to the hull they are there to give stability when under power. If they were missing it would take 40 acres to turn.

Might be related to this. Two guys are out in a boat duck hunting and one accidentally shoots a hole in the bottom of the boat. The boat starts to fill with water, so the other guy blows another hole in the bottom of the boat. “What did you do that for???” “To let the water back out!”
