Strange, I wonder what caused the sinking. Prayers sent out to the man lost, hopefully he will be found alive.
Saw the boat while driving to beanies. I Hope they will find him safely.
Floating debris is my guess resulting from high water. There is a shallow point that darts out from shore south of the marina but I with the high water I’d believe he would clear it.
I did see blue lights from a sherrifs boat this evening around 8pm next to one of the pillars of the new bridge up stream from the sunken boat.
I dont recall if the bridge is lit up at night or not though it is a nowake zone through that area.
Torn bellows seal on drive is always a leading suspect in these sinkings. Very few pleasure boats have the pumping capacity to stay afloat for more than a few minutes if a bellows fails.
Cold water. Be careful.

That is great to hear, the rest of the story will be interesting….
So glad he’s alive! Yes, you gotta think this one could get interesting. I won’t jump to conclusions but if that was my boat I would need an awfully good reason not to stick with my passenger and wait for the cops on shore.

Right? And then not let people know that you’re ok? The logical assumption is that there may have been some libations involved.
I actually meant to do coffee cup guy and not beer mug guys, but yeah, you can obviously see what I was thinking. . .
The guy is starting to look more d-baggy every minute.
Hmmmm. From the Strib article:
“While the Sheriff’s Office also has yet to explain the circumstances surrounding the mystery of Elgersma’s whereabouts, he has been a wanted man since a warrant for his arrest was issued in January out of Hennepin County. That warrant stems from when he missed a hearing after violating terms of his probation in connection with a drunken-driving conviction, according to court records.”
Hmmm. Yes. You might think that, but I couldn’t possibly comment.

Anyone know any ladies from the cities who wouldn’t have a problem swimming to shore in the middle of the night on the river?
Give it 24hrs they will have something…..
Fleeing was potentially the smartest thing to do given his criminal record and outstanding warrant, but why wouldn’t his passenger just be honest at that point and say the guy fled? That’s seriously messed up to have the sheriff out there searching for someone you know is OK. And she’ll just lie and they won’t be able to prove it so she’ll get off scot-free.
Think his insurance company is interested in paying the claim on that boat?
Salvage rights on that boat equil %50 of its value paid by the insurance company if i remember right. Just need to attach a rope to it.
He’ll need that insurance money to pay his lawyer. What a world we live in.
The outstanding warrant in this case is probably gonna help the schmuck. Gives him an extremely plausible explanation for why he fled. He’s still in a world of trouble but he bought himself enough time to get his ducks in a row.

So answer this; Did she know the guy fled? Did he make to shore at the same spot and the same time as the woman? Did he flee while swimming to shore and she honestly did not know where he ended up or if he made it out of the water?
Are you assuming she knows or do you know for a fact that she knows?

Of course I don’t know the answers to any of those questions, except for the last one, and the answer is clearly yes, I’m assuming. Which is stupid of me. Maybe he’s a bigger jerk than thought and just ditched her.
The boat was named bromance and it wasn’t even his.. Classic
Fixing your link
he didn’t even own the boat.. he had permission to use it apparently
Sometimes justice does not get served. The guy is probably one of those snakes that slips in and out of the legal system that does not get held accountable other than a short stint in lock up and time held over his head.
Best we can do is thank all the responders for their valuable and unwavering service.
THANYOU!!!
Possibly slick move on the guys part to avoid DUI but he should be held accountable for the rescue and recovery effort he allowed to proceed for nothing.
The girl didn’t know where he was so the LEO’s wouldn’t go get him while still under the influence. The lawyer called only after they couldn’t prove he was drinking or whatever.
He gets off with the tax payers flipping the bill and the insurance company holding the bag.
He didn’t steal the boat and it’s not against the law to sink a boat. He’s done nothing wrong they can be proven.
All of this in my opinion of course.
The owner of the vessel, Mr Mach of Mpls, might not be very happy right now. Don’t blame him.

Totally agree.
The unfortunate reality is that law enforcement, fire, and S&R personnel OFTEN have to get dragged out of bed and risk thier backsides to deal with situations that are caused by people being total jackwagons.
Thank you to all those people who are out there saving people from themselves.
