Where and how much is it to get a boat recarpeted. 17ft tiller boat wide open. In need of new carpet in the next year or 2. Who does it and how much am I looking at spending

I had my boat floor redone a couple of years ago. I believe I paid $600 for new plywood and vinyl.

If I had been healthy at the time, I’d done it myself, not a tough job with the old floor templates.

There’s a company in Lake City or Wabasha, can’t recall which that recarpeted my camper. He and his son did a very nice job for me.

I would tell you what I paid but it doesn’t relate to a fishing boat. I was given an estimate before work started and that’s what it cost me.

If you like carpet, by all means go back with it but I’ve also seen some nice roll on products that are better suited for fishing and clean up.

I did a 17’ Tuffy tiller a years ago. It’s not easy at all, but very doable for someone who is willing to spend the time. There is lots of info on bassboatcentral.net in the boat restoration section. I’ve read crazy numbers about the price to have someone else do the carpet, but never gotten a quote myself.

I redid my 1996 Lund ProV floor and carpet 2 winters ago. I echo John23. It was NOT an easy job. I only did the back floor. I did not redo the front deck yet. Getting out the old floor was the challenge. Those rusted stainless screws kicked my ass. Putting the carpet on the new floor was easy. Installing the new floor wasn’t bad with the exception of putting a new screw through by fuel vent line. Cost for me to do this part of the floor not including replacing my vent line was between 300 and 400 dollars (marine plywood, marine carpet, stainless screws, adhesive, sealer for plywood). I did mine over the winter. I did this over about 4 weekends.

I’ve done 3 floors. Cheap and easy.

Paying to have it done is bookoo $$

If you find a good outfit to do it please post it here. Mine needs it this winter and I really really don’t want to do it myself.

If I were to have a compliant it would be that I should of told him to try to clean off some of the loose fibers. I’m still working on ensuring they won’t get into the bilge pumps but you guys won’t be putting in a short shag I don’t think. LOL!

Boat dealer did mine and not one associated with my brand of boat.

Shipwreck can do it. I would think a small dealer who might be looking for winter work for his guys. Sit down and make a few phone calls. If the dealers won’t do it they will likely know who would.

    Is it a Lund?

I hear they are very lenient on carpet and flooring warranties. Sometimes they warranty carpet and flooring for life.

Forget carpet. The non skid polymer vinyl floors are so much easier to maintain and clean.

I’d do this and put snap in carpet over the top of it. I did it in my old Lund and it worked great. That carpet gets wet and it never dries. Nice to be able to take it out of it gets wet or you know you are gonna be out in bad weather.

Funny coincidence – I had a guy leave a card on my truck windshield while it was parked at the boat landing: Lakewood Interiors, Inc., Ron Benscoter, (651) 714-3903 or (651) 285-4042. He wrote “custom boat floors and upholstery” on the card. I have no idea who he is or the quality of his work.

I agree with getting rid of carpet, but the vinyl stuff can be slippery in the cold and the sea deck type floors are very costly from what I understand. Maybe worth looking into.

The carpet on my Tuffy was not easy! But I did a Lund and then an Alumacraft way back when and those both were pretty easy because the decks were just flat plywood with carpet glued to it. Not sure what kind of boat you’re dealing with, but nicer boats (and especially glass boats) with lots of compartments and details are lots of work.

Thanks john I appreciate it. It’s worth getting a quote from him.
But yes I dont want vinyl due to fishing all winter and could imagine what it would be like mid December. I’ll just go with carpet again. It lasted since 98 so it should last another 10 15 years. And I wont have it that long.

They do make flooring that is similar to vinyl but more durable and with grip. I really looked that on my last floor. Price was much higher, much higher. And I concluded the same way you did … I’ll just go with carpet again. )

I was given an estimate before work started and that’s what it cost me.

That part alone is nice!! Never know what costs are going to pop up once a job has started…

Tommy was at my house today. Gave me an estimate. I was fine with the estimate. 1997 dominator tiller. My boat has always been under a custom cover when not in use. I bought it new in 98. Wood is in good shape yet. Carpet is getting worn exposing the wood. That’s why it’s getting replaced.

I’m sure it’ll be good to go. Only a couple day turn around.

So what was the estimate and what type of carpet? Curious as I need to do mine this winter and if reasonable enough may just have someone else do it.

Tommy did recarpet my boat this past week. I picked it up late this afternoon, and only did a 47 second look at it before the rain got going again.

I’ll let you know the results when I can look at it better. Went off Brian’s recommendation. grin

I’m happy with the results of my boat getting recarpeted. Everything looks good. I’ll see how it holds up. The original carpet was 22 years old and still in relatively pretty good shape.
