Boat lists to starboard

I have a 2006 monark 185 with 150 etec and I’m the original owner. The last couple of years the boat is starting to list starboard more. No change in weight distribution and no leaks. Same prop and batteries. On plane it is very noticeable. If I come off plane while making a right turn it will almost list so much the water will come close to the top of the gunnels!

    Thoughts? warped hull?

    Thanks

Mine did the same, then I stepped on a scale, then I started on a diet…

Do you have a jack plate or trim tabs?

Does it sit level at rest?

no jack plates or trim tabs. I am the same weight when I bought it. It lists a tiny bit starboard When docked, but always did. Hardly noticeable. Could a aluminum hull warp or stretch over 15 years? Its been in big water pounding a few times in years 1-3. Not after that. Prop is fine. Aluminum on year 4. Just sand wash and no bent blades or major nicks. Doesn’t make sense.

I should add I probably put 70 hours a year at most on it.

The boat may have a small leak and the floatation material is saturated on that side.

Look down all surfaces of the hull. See if there are any irregularities in it. Also check your transom, if there is any flex, irregularities, corroding paint it may be going bad.

Check your motor mounts, tilt bracket, shaft mounts, etc for wear or misalignment.

If it is gradually getting worse, it sounds to me like something is wearing out or breaking a little more with each use.

Do you have a large sidescan transducer on one side? Those can sometimes create an issue if they are set too low.

This right here would be my guess. You can have the floatation saturated without showing visible “leaks” or having water in the bilge. When I rebuilt my boat, the foam was thoroughly saturated. To the point where I was getting puddles of water from it as I removed it. Boat was bone dry in the rear bilge access and no drips while on the trailer (was not stored in water either). If you can remove a floor section you could check the foam, or possibly get a moisture probe to investigate.

To solve the issue, I removed all the foam and filled the hull with water. Then I was able to pinpoint the joints that had drips coming out of it. Sealed those with Gluvit and replaced the poured foam with sheet foam in case I have to do it again in the future.

Hit a wave hard enough and it can dent the bow. A dent in bow can cause listing.

I keep 30 LBS of lead weights in the boat for fishing, but it also serves as an easy method to level out boat depending on the passenger situation.

Look over the bottom of the boat for damage to the strakes. There may be one separating from the hull.

Look at the where the transom meets the hull and look for visible damage/dents. This can also cause listing.

Your motor’s skeg may be bent enough to cause listing, but should be noticeable by increased force to steer, may not be noticeable with a zero feedback system.

Does the listing change with trim setting?

Unfortunately, this was my thought too.

Unless there’s something else that has changed like adding batteries, transducer drag, hull damage, etc. Most of this should be easy to spot.

Where is the boat stored? If outside, I’d be double suspicious of water getting in and saturating the foam. This is where you have to hope the decking can be removed fairly easily. If the carpet is done over the fasteners, then it’s not going to be fun to get access to see what’s going on.
