Here’s a side imaging shot. That’s what I believe is a large drum in 5’ on the river.

    Thats the 40 inch walleye

Thanks Matt anymore? Picking up large fish in solid bottom is one thing. Just trying to get an idea of side imaging with garmin as I am not as familiar with them. Appreciate the help.

I don’t have many of the side imaging. Here’s the livescope over a school of crappies this spring. A good portion of them hit the grease.

I have seen livescope in action pretty amazing in certain scenarios. Matt if you remember the next time you are out to take some SI pics I would really be interested in seeing some more.

I t seemed the HB’s had too many menus and sub menus to ga back through to change my presets and functions, while the garmin actually has the major settings right at the bottom of each screen or map.

Nailed it. This is my only complaint with HB. I think their sonar is superior but navigation on the units is far easier and streamlined with Garmin units.

I don’t know. I thought they were easy most save the 3 screens you use most, then under view eliminate the screens that you never use and your good to go. I have to admit Garmin has some features I wouldn’t mind seeing on the birds

That’s one thing that drives me nuts about my Helix’s, not having a main/home screen.

It’s just random pages that you have to click through…..

Also, the Helix 7 doesn’t have favorites buttons, so it’s really a pain in the butt compared to Garmin.

HB is ahead on side imaging and way behind on ease of use. I switched to HB and wish I would have stayed with Lowrance, which I know well. Garmin is like Lowrance, common sense navigation. Stay with what you know. HB 2D sucks next to Lowrance also. JMHO

I would be almost willing to bet that in the next 2-3 years there will be something new out there that will make what ever brand you are using obsolete.

But no way in Hell will I pay that kind of money for something that shows me all the fish that I’m NOT catching.

I don’t have pictures but I would say this is exactly what mine typically looks like too. Soft bottoms are grainy like that, don’t really know how that compares to others. I do think it’s much more intuitive to use than Lowrance and I haven’t really used Humminbird to say how it compares.

Hard bottom with logs, as soon as I got to about 18′ the bottom started to change and I could see the logs sinking into the mud. I should have taken a picture of that too. In the deep mud I find it much harder to see fish in Mega. I switch it to the 800 MHz and then it is easier to see fish.

Comparing technology specifically, Garmin livescope surpasses them all. Real time/live sonar reading not still images/history reading. The touch screen can’t be beat and internal mapping with free updates. You don’t need a clear (mega) image to see structure really, if rocks are there then you’ll see them, even in regular sonar mode(light and shadows). Garmin livescope forward/down/perspective displays fish behavior and lure presentation.

The favorites buttons are money on the garmin. I have them setup and rarely use anything else regardless of what water I’m on.
