I would love to be able bring my Setter’s fishing more often, but they spend 100% of the time on board “hunting” birds. they don’t stop, one end of the boat to the other and back……..
They like the Tri-Toon plenty too, but again; on the front looking for birds!
This is Pip, our little Jack Russell Terrier out fishing with us.
…on the front looking for birds!
Ripley almost got into it with a loon last summer. He was looking in the water off the dock and a loon surfaced right at the end of the dock. I’m not sure which was more surprised!
Daisy-(our 13 year old “pup”) hides under the console while the boat is on plane, but once we slow she’s in the spot pictured. After awhile she gets a little bored and naps back under the console. But when we’re catching keepers and throwing in the livewell, she’s grabbing them with her teeth and laying them out on the floor. Pure entertainment!

Love the setters!
Copper will go anywhere as long as he can sit in my lap.
Great thread, Crappie!
Luna & Molly both love being out in the boat.
Ruger is a bit anxious in the boat. When I’m casting he’s in retrieve mode. Makes a great pillow, and god forbid if he’s left behind….
Elvis loved riding the sea-doo. We’d pull the kids on the tube. Both he and the sea-do are long gone. Sometimes he and I would ride it. He’d sit and wait on it just in case someone might drive it for him.
My first dog would jump in the water often, especially if you had a big fish on. But, Macy stays in her spot pretty good.
I’m always envious when I see people with dogs that can behave in a boat. My setter will go after every lure cast and when underway he gets nervous and hides under the dash and pulls a bunch of wires/cables. The Boxer does OK, but you can’t just take one dog (that wouldnt be fair). Apparently Ive never had time to take a pic, probably due to the chaos. I remember a boundary waters canoe trip once with the setter WORST IDEA EVER
Here is Daisy just chilling waiting for the next bite.
My Bubb dog many years ago when he was a puppy on a cold, rainy April day.
This was fishing opener 2020 during our COVID time-out. Willow was just a puppy, but she still loves to fish, and is the best behaved dog I’ve ever had in the boat!
I’ve tried 5 times now to post my picture and it keeps getting blocked. I give up.
Pic is from 2014, and I miss both of them terribly. Ivory lab was a great boat dog, although she would jump out if she saw another dog, or duck or goose. Fun lifting a 100lb dog back into the boat. Black lab drove me absolutely crazy, running from front to back, whining when I casted, never laid down to just enjoy the ride. This pic is when heading in, both of them would stand up there and “wait” until we got 100 yards from the landing, then they would launch themselves out and swim in. I really miss them!
