I have a jbl charge 5 or something like that, and sadly after 5 or 6 years it won’t take a charge any more. I use this thing for everything. It loud, not huge, had great battery life, was waterproof and sounded good. But now that it’s dead is there any better options out there. Potentially something a little louder, when I’m working on the house I enjoy loud music. The TV is almost never on in our house, it’s music. And the jbl was great for bringing in the boat or the ice shack or anywhere. Just looking for any other brands I should check out.

I have an Altec Lansing Life jacket.
Has worked great for 4-5 years in the boat. Has been wet, frozen, dropped, and keeps working. It also has wireless charging capability so you can use it to charge your phone too.

Have you looked into the Milwaukee jobsite radios?

I’ve have a Sony SRSXB43b for years, it’s compact and has great battery life, but probably not as loud as what you’re looking for.

Negative, I have no Milwaukee batteries so that’s not a option. Also it’s about 5x the size of the jbl

10-4 on the batteries, but size wise they have multiple options for those that have batteries already.

If I were you I’d go to a Target/Walmart/Best Buy and check all of the displays out in person. Probably the best way to see what you’re looking for in size, sound, volume, etc.

Any one run a jbl xtreme 4 ? How loud are they. I prefer the neighbors can listen to my music when I want loud music.

The JBL’s are a great unit for the price, I wouldn’t worry about going back to a newer Charge model or a bigger Extreme or Boombox model. Ultimate Ears (UE) also get good reviews for their whole speaker line and would give them a hard look. Anker are good at price for smaller sizes, larger speakers get mixed reviews but I like them.

Not much experience with Bose or Sonos, gonna spend more on those brands and not sure it’s worth it, like TVs the speaker quality difference has really flattened from the low to mid price range and it’s about value for the price point.

I have a Sony SRS-XG500 and it’s only OK – very directional sound, max volume ain’t great and charge life stinks.

    Hope this helps, good luck.

If I had Milwaukee tools I’d probably go that route. Walmart has the jbl stuff and I like that stuff, just checking other options. I don’t find my self in places like best buys or anything very often. And I can’t find myself wanting to drive that far to go shopping lol. Hoping the gentlemen of ido had the knowledge of some speakers.

Yeah, I have three friends that have had JBL Extremes over the years and they’ve been very happy with them. FWIW I think they’re a bigger version of the Charge.

We have a Sonos Roam 2 that is waterproof and sounds really good. Not sure max volume but it gets as loud as we’ve ever wanted it in house.

Yeah they are i believe. How much louder are they then the charge. Are they 50 percent louder ? They are on sale for 299 right now and I like they have replaceable batteries incase the battery takes a crap like my charge did.

I’d second Sonos…they make great products. We love ours.

Has any one seen or heard a turtle box ? I see lots of great reviews but starting at 500 bucks it’s a tough blind purchase.

shock I have three bluetooth speakers and paid zero dollars for all of them. Granted none of them sound that good or can get real loud. I had no idea they were that expensive.

    Following.

I get paranoid about leaving the stereo on the tritoon on all day when we park at an island. I usually have a booster pack with but about the time I forget it we will run everything dead. A semi waterproof bluetooth speaker would be a better choice. I’ve drug the Milwaukee jobsite stereo out for a few all day events, but it’s huge to lug around

I have the Ultimate Ears Mega Boom. Plenty loud for my purposes and great sound. Little to no distortion. Twelve or thirteen inches tall and about four inches in diameter. Lasts pretty much all day and half the night on a charge. It fell off the pontoon into the water last year. It was probably submerged in the water five to seven minutes by the time I turned around and located it and fished it out.

The power light was still on but lost Bluetooth. I powered it off and back on and reconnected to Bluetooth and it’s been good to go. Highly recommend it.

IDK if I can say it’s 50% louder but it’s noticeable and we use it for our ragers when the guys get together. If you really want to blast out tunes I’d just get a bigger unit and spend closer to the $500 point, something like JBL Boombox, UE Hyperboom, or Bose SoundLink Max.

That’s insane. You could buy ten good speakers for $500.

I’ve had all sorts of cheap speakers in the past. None of them have good sound nor are tough. My jbl lived through hell and back on jobsites and boats and being dropped. None of the cheaper ones were near the quality. That charge was ball park 175 bucks. I will probably go the extreme 4 route for 300 bucks. My job sites are dirty wet and dusty, so something weatherproof like the jbl is a must.

We have a Boom 3 that’s going strong at 4-5 years. Similar to the Charge 5. Have you looked into a replacement battery?
