Ma and I hit a great sale on blueberries today and larded up. After putting 4 quart bags in the freezer she said something about making blueberry jam with the last 4 boxes of berries so things got rounded up for jam making. In the process of getting prepared the idea of adding some chopped jalapeno to the jam came along and the original plan got modified.

I did a standard jam recipe from the certo box but added one medium sized jalapeno chopped up real fine to the cooking blueberries. It turned out to be a sinus cleaner but the end result is pretty darned good. Like the raspberry/jalapeno I make, this blueberry jam is served by covering a block of cream cheese with the jam and spread on crackers.

All a person has to do to any of the jam or jelly recipes is add one finely chopped hot pepper to the mix as it does its initial cooking. The amount of heat can be adjusted by omitting some or all of the seeds and/or membranes from the peppers before chopping.

Good stuff. Sure going good with the Vikings game.

Ya Tom, I’ve ate a jam before, forget what kind but it did have some hot pepper in it, and it was better then I thought it would be. Its one of those things where you have to try it to appreciate its flavor. Id buy or make a few jars of it.

I lathered up some toast with this blueberry jam this morning and it is good. It has some heat, but its tolerable. Its will be better on crackers with the cream cheese in my opinion though. Ma licked the spoon so it must have passed her test.
