I sometimes use something similar made by Northland called the Thumper Jig.It has a smaller blade on it and a wire keeper for plastics.I have used both minnows and plastic on them with success.
I was pitching a thumper tipped with plastic on pool #2 the other day and what I thought was a snag wound up being about a 15lb carp.I was yanking on it like it was a snag next thing I know it was yanking back, lol.
I use the thumper jigs all the time ,both 1/8 and 1/4 oz.I put 3 1/2 inch paddle tails on them.Smallmouth and walleye both eat em up.I fish Rainy and lotw mostly.I have caught some big pike on these too,in fact I have a rod dedicated to this setup.
