Anybody have Luck With Blade Baits For Cold Water Bass?

Late last fall (Oct/Nov) I was really trying to figure out the blade bait bite. I was using the silver buddy blade and tried every type of retrieve with no luck. Straight, pull and stop, yo yo, jigging, vertical. I keep watching the videos Tactical Bassin puts out about them and it looks like a fun and effective way to fish for bass in cold weather. They are in CA so “cold” is relative.

I’ve linked their newest video about it below for reference.

Anybody have good tips on using blade baits late season or good results using them here in the north?

Like you said – They are fairly common down south. I have never tried them myself here in Minnesota. I do have a few friends who did real well late fall Smallmouth bass fishing with Jigging Raps. I would think a blade bait would have worked well in that situation as well. I hope to get out with them on that bite this next fall. I may have to have some blade baits on hand to try as well.

I figure it’s basically like a lipless crank but have heard it’s a little more subtle which in my mind says it should work better in cold water. I’ll be playing around with it more this year.

I’ve done the blade bait thing a handful of times and I think it can work really well. But after about an hour if it isn’t working better than anything else, I switch techniques. It can get fatiguing after awhile and my ADHD sets in.

I still have some blade baits left from the old Zip Lure infomercials of the 1990’s. I think I got a free set of Ginsu knives too by ordering COD before midnight..
