The male was not very photogenic and left after one photo.

The female was more willing to have her photo taken.

Cool! I think I’ve seen one of those in my life. I was walking down to a creek and spotted it’s web before passing into it…thank god.

    those things are neat!
around here before every one started mowing the road ditches you could see them by the hundreds.
it was always neat to see the morning sun light up their webs full beauty when they were covered with dew.

Wow those are really really good photos! you should submit those to a publication like National Geographic or something. Thanks for sharing. Does anyone know what kind of spider that is? Looks deadly, though I don’t think MN/WI has any deadly spiders that are native…

Some sort of orb spider? It looks a lot like the banana spiders we have. They are every where in the state parks, wherever there is little influence of man. Had to turn around on a few trails because the ladies refused to walk under them.

Don’t see to many any more. When I was a kid they were all over I would catch flies and throw them into the web and watch the spider wrap them in webbing. As the headline says, Common garden spider.

I had one of those on the outdoor faucet for my garden hose a few years ago. I will have to see if I can dig up the pictures. They are big and nasty looking!
