I’ve been able to hold off the FW somewhat from having me totally retire.
However I’m down to about 8 trips this coming summer. Seems like it’s easier to say “I have a trip tonight” then “I’m going fishing tonight.”

I had an interesting conversation with Angie the General Manager of the Parkway and Super 8 Motel in Red Wing today.
To make a long conversation short, the Parkway and Super 8 Motels are now a sponsor of BrianK’s Trophy Catfishing Adventures!

Until today, I didn’t realize the little diamond we have in Red Wing!

The Parkway Motel is located at
    3425 Highway 61 West
    Red Wing, MN 55066
    651-388-8231

You’ll need to call/email for exact rates as they change by about $10. depending on day of the week and length of stay.
    Cabin starting at $69.
Rooms with 2/3 people starting at $69.

Rooms all come with sheets and towels
    Smoking rooms if available
    Boat plug ins
    Fish cleaning area.

For fishermen only: Refundable deposit if inclement weather.
In other words if your coming up from Iowa and the weather isn’t conducive to fishing, you may cancel that day without loosing your deposit.

Since the Super 8 is their big sister motel, they communicate with each other to give you the best over night stay for your fishing dollar.

Free breakfast and pool included. Bring the kids along?

Both motels are located near Bay Point Park and just a few minutes drive to the WI Back Channel Ramp.
Many places to eat close by with many delivery options.

If you decide to stay at one of these locations, please mention you heard it from BK. They promised they wouldn’t charge extra. )

Halftime now during that football sports game. roll Thought I’d respond here as what is still on my bucket list is to experience a “Minnesota/Wisconsin Cat and Sturgeon Acquisition”… yay

Being that this is a nocturnal pursuit, I debated on participating and then having to drive back to the North Metro as the sun was rising.

This offer is a solution I considered, but now seeing actual sponsors of BrianK’s Trophy Catfishing Adventures, I now have assurance that I won’t have to sleep in my truck. smile

BK, you say…”However I’m down to about 8 trips this coming summer.” Hoping I can add a #9? I’ll be in touch…still time to plan that? Some of us are still ice fishing. peace

Good for you Brian. Its nice to see you branching out some from those old digs and spreading the word about all of the great places in Red Wing that aren’t tied to a dead end road.

I’m holding on as long as I can Mike! Like I said, it’s easier to get out when I have a guide trip rather trying to just get a kitchen pass.

Andy, we can fish on the WI side as long as you bring the 1.5 pound walleyes for bait!

One of the reasons to stay in Red Wing is the night drive back. More of a deer problem then anything else. ll

The best fishing of the day for walleyes can be had at sunset and that’s the time most people are leaving the river to get home at a decent hour. Spending an affordable night, very close by without worrying about towels, linens or dinner makes for an enjoyable evening.

Local taverns are within walking distance and there’s a good taxi service a phone call away. I strongly discourage drinking and driving.

Angie sure seemed on top of her game and she dropped a number of names of people that have and do stay there that I know well.

My website is just about finished being updated for the 2018 “short” season. Well, at least the calendar of open dates is ready. )

The post that was here is no longer relevant so I have deleted it.

Back when I lived in Wisconsin, I’d defer the shortest trip to the cities and take the scenic route crossing from LaCrosse and then up 61 through all the towns hugging the river including Red Wing which was always worth an extended stop. I’ll be looking forward to another revisit of that area. This time for some fishing!

Personally speaking Andy, I’m a WI 35 kinda guy.

There’s many more ups and downs (and deer), but like you I feel it’s worth the extra time.

We hope to retire (totally) in the Red Wing area but that’s a few years off yet.
