When I was in college, I took a histology course. For a bonus question the professor stained and sectioned a piece of Spam. I don’t think anyone knew what it was and got the bonus points. I do remember seeing little short things that looked like muscle fibers and other tissues. I still like Spam 35 years later.

So what is the other 5%?

If you don’t like Spam because of what’s in it, you might want to read the ingredients in your favorite hot dog!

Pork with ham meat added (that counts as one), 5% >>>salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite (to preserve the color)

I’ve made those Spam Fry’s Robby. I used the low sodium Spam and they turned out great!

Is that sort of like drinking 3.2 beer?

Could be. Lot’s of folk like 3.2 and a lot don’t know the difference.

I know a number of folks that flip the top and grab a spoon.

For me, I don’t care for the smell right out of the can. Skillet fried, deep fried or oven baked…I’m all in!

I was disappointed in the last can I opened that didn’t have a good amount of the spam gel on top or bottom. Gotta smear that on some toast in the morning.

Ill stick with hotdogs. It is not the taste of Spam that gets me. It is the heartburn. I cannot eat Liver Sausage (Braunschweiger) anymore either. I know, cry me a River. Stay well and healthy All!

I can easily eat Spam out of the can sliced in a sandwich with mayo and maybe cheese. Usually though my wife mixes it with mayo, onions and cheese and we bake it on halves of hamburger buns. We call it Spam surprise. I dont eat enough it. This post reminded me to get back at it.

Well, I don’t eat pork, but if there may be an equivalent in the beef category I think it would be corned beef hash…right out of the can.

You are incorrect Sir, Corned beef hash is high falutin’ in comparison.
