I know they have a catchy jingle on their t.v. commercials but how is their work? I am in the market for a metal roof and was wondering if any of you have used Bjorkstrand Metal Roofing and how your experience with them was.

I put on a metal roof a few years ago. This has nothing to do with your question. Be sure to tell your tax man and your insurance people about the metal roof . Tax break and insurance rate deduction !!!!!!

aleb, that is news to me also. I have heard that a metal roof can lower your insurance premium but I never heard of it lowering your taxes. Can you explain?

We’re all going to have metal roofs in the future, IMO. The reason is because the insurance industry is tried of giving everyone free roofs after every time 5 hail stones fall in a given area. Over time they are going to just keep jacking up rates for anyone who does not have metal.

We’ll be going metal the next time we re-roof. Asphalt was good at one time because it was cheap. Times change.

Tax break happens if you install a product that has an energy rating. The installer should know about this and provide the necessary documents.
Pros? Will last for years some as much as 50 years.
Con? Subject to avalanche. Snow will slide off

Metal roofs can get damaged by hail also. We are replacing a metal roof next week because of hail damage back in June. Granted in our case the hail was 2 1/2 inches in diameter and also damaged the siding. The metal also does affect cell phone coverage as Suzuki said. We ended up putting up a cell phone antenna on the roof to increase the signal in the house.

Aleb, thanks for that little bit of info, I will have to check into that. As for an avalanche, the roof I’m installing is a stone coated, shake style, 29 gauge metal which will not cause a snow slide. I do have a question about the application though, if anyone with experience in metal roofs knows the pro’s and con’s of installing battens or going with a direct to deck install?
