I’m getting way too many house finches. Must be a sign that I just got my order of pellets friday.

I heard the chickadees spring song yesterday. My favoriteJust the thought of that sound takes me to the exact same spot in my childhood every time. My Dad’s opening day trout fishing spot in Michigan.
That’s great. I think of walleye opener on Sagatagan.
Gregg GunterPosts: 1059March 2, 2024 at 7:25 am #2257586I heard a robin yesterday on March 1st. I love March, it’s meteorological spring and the birds are singing and flowers will start poking up. I even like a March blizzard with the snow as white as can be in the strong sun.
It melts fast and seems to wash away the salt and sand. The days keep getting longer and the month goes by fast. Time to pull the boat out of the back corner.Jimmy JonesPosts: 2812March 2, 2024 at 7:29 am #2257588I heard a robin yesterday on March 1st.
When I dropped Ma off in Centerville on Thursday morning I saw robins on a lawn. Here in Rochester robins have hung around all winter. A week ago maybe a hundred of them laid seige to the crabapple trees along the street and stripped every apple that was hanging. Winter robins here have been pretty common for the last ten or so years.
March 2, 2024 at 8:18 am #2257599no robins this far north that i’ve seen yet.
i brought out the bird bath and filled it, also put my seed cathcer nets on my 2 big sunflower feeders….that’ll bring cold and snow for sure!!!
starting to see more birds mostly repolls!!!!
Gregg GunterPosts: 1059March 3, 2024 at 7:15 am #2257710I expected to see robins this winter and didn’t. Maybe it was too warm!
March 4, 2024 at 12:47 pm #2257977well..i’ll be..just had 3 robins in the back yard!!!!!
but it aint spring till is see loons and blue herons!!!!
March 4, 2024 at 2:48 pm #2258005Robins are not in my hood all year. They leave later in the summer after final nesting until spring. Just got our first one a couple days ago. Setting up territory for nesting I presume. We have a big crabapple that will tide them over until the worms and bugs start flowing.
ThunderLund78Posts: 2530March 4, 2024 at 2:51 pm #2258006Haven’t seen one yet but my mom had robins in her yard this morning. Not seeing too many spring migrators at my feeder yet, but I imagine it will be soon.
March 4, 2024 at 3:02 pm #2258010We have robins year round, but I have definitely seen more lately.
Better put out those hummingbird feeders soon!
Jimmy JonesPosts: 2812March 6, 2024 at 9:21 am #2258445We have an American Bittersweet vine growing up our oak tree next to the park land and just now there were four or five Cedar Waxwings out there chowing down on what’s left of the berries on the vines. seems early for the Waxwings but then everything is out of wack this year so far.
March 6, 2024 at 9:29 am #2258447i would say its out of wack!!!!! i put out my cement bird bath few days ago…..this morning the bowl was laying on the ground!!!

Jimmy JonesPosts: 2812March 8, 2024 at 7:23 am #2259087Red Winged Black Birds are all over the place this morning. Not here yesterday. And yesterday while fishing we got to listen to Sandhills singing up a racket.
March 8, 2024 at 8:04 am #2259103The house finches have become pretty scarce the last week, just when I was ready to site in my pellet rifle. I have to get those things thinned out before the purples starts showing up and I can’t tell the difference. They look a lot alike.
April 26, 2024 at 11:09 am #2269589put the oriole and hummingbird feeders out yesterday.

I/m going to also add a prong to the side of the feeder to add a 1/2 a orange
April 26, 2024 at 12:55 pm #2269633Im lucky with Orioles. Our cabin is on nesting ground zero and we see/hear them constantly for a couple months. I dont even put out food in the summer except the hummingbird feeder. Those are pretty thick up north just about everywhere.
I would really like to get a tanager or a bunting to nest in my yard so I can see them a lot for a change.May 2, 2024 at 9:42 am #2270574May 1st is when I usually put out the oriole feeder. Anybody seen one yet in Minnesota? Anything as far north as you yet, Glenn?

I put mine out the other day, have yet to have a sighting.
Jimmy JonesPosts: 2812May 2, 2024 at 11:06 am #2270626Orioles were reported in Bloomington a few days ago. I’ve had my nectar/orange feeders out since Tuesday, but no action other than finches and sparrows yet.

May 2, 2024 at 12:56 pm #2270677We had a Scarlet Tanager couple take up residence in the wreath on our front door. They have like 5 eggs too. All fine by me…until the 3 year old left the front door open last weekend and turns out the birds enjoyed the addition to their home and wanted to explore all of the interior of our home before really putting down roots. After a couple hour rendition of me playing all 3 parts of the 3 stooges with a fishing net, both birds were returned to the exterior with little to no harm besides some bird poop on the couch.

Did anyone happen to catch a video?

Awesome! Those really cool birds and usually only seen in heavy woods.

Thankfully not, the real kicker was getting the first bird out and thinking the second one flew out on its own. Quite the surprise a couple hours later, the chirps were IN….THE….HOUSE. So it was like deja vu all over again, to quote Yogi Berra.
