Some of you may have seen this on social media, but I haven’t seen it on IDO. Kind of amazing that a fish that large was caught so far upstream.

“Jason George, a crew member with the commercial fish company that caught the carp, said the crew saw something odd but initially assumed it was a catfish. It wasn’t until the next day he realized it was something else.”

What kind of commercial fishing is done through the ice on the Minnesota River, and why wouldn’t you realize that it’s not a catfish until the next day?

I believe they net mostly Buffalo fish, maybe some regular carp too. They sell them out east. I think they started doing it in 2008 or so.

If you google it you can find a little info on it. I’m originally from NU, so I’ve heard talk about it now and then in the past. Not sure what type of net, I’m guessing some kind of trap net if they have to release other types of fish.

The show bottom feeders showed them threading a net under the ice using a remote control “boat”.
