Biggest Largemouth you've ever seen

  • #1991783

    Okay I gotta ask…

What’s the biggest largemouth you’ve ever PERSONALLY seen come out of a Minnesota body of water?

I’ve personally seen and caught some fives, but was fortunate enough to see my buddy pull a 6.48 several years ago.
I know there are stories of 7s and 8s out there, so let’s hear them!

6.7 largemouth from the Snake River in between Cross/Pokegema during a tournament two summers ago. It’s incredible how much bigger they look in person. Can’t imagine what a ten lber is like in person.

Many years ago at a tourney on Prior lake someone weighed in one that was 7.6 I believe. I personally had a 6.7 in my livewell and lost a fish the same day I believe was even bigger. Had the fish in the livewell for about a hour deciding if I wanted to keep it to have mounted. I ended up releasing it. If the one I lost was as big as I think it was i’m Not sure I would have released that one.

I’ve gotten one right at seven, and one that was an ounce shy. And a 7.7 off the dock smallmouth is a lie.

Personally seen a 21 incher that weighed 6.17 pounds. I caught it in 2007 and deep hooked it when it was ungodly hot out in August. Tried releasing and reviving it for 15 minutes and just wouldn’t go so I got it mounted.

I don’t fish tournaments and I’ve only ever been to a smallmouth tournament weigh in so I’ve never seen anything bigger in the largemouth category.

Personally I’ve been stuck at 21.5 inches for over 10 years on both largemouth and smallmouth. Since then have caught a good handful of 21.5s as well. One weekend had both a largemouth and smallmouth that hit 21.5. Just can’t seem to pass it.

Did net a 22″ largemouth for a buddy about 6 years ago.

I was at the Bass Pro Shops Springfield store about 8 years ago and in their aquarium – was a huge largemouth. The sign said it was 9+ lbs.

Seeing it up close really made me feel inadequate as a fisherman! That would be a state record here in Minnesota.

Friend of mine toured the Texas “ShareLunker” program where they selectively breed and stock only angler-caught largemouth bass over 13 pounds. He was able to try to lip one of the 14 pounders in a tank and said it snapped its head back and forth and almost broke his wrist!

Would like to get to Lake Fork someday. I saw an article a couple years ago that said about 250 of the first 500 13+ pound largemouth caught in Texas for the ShareLunker program were from Lake Fork.

It would be a “Bucket(mouth)” list trip!

    Ok,
5 – 6 years ago I was building the apartment in Ramsey(COR). The money guy would show up to assess the progress payment.
He was from Arkansas and I got to know him pretty well. We started to shoot the S$!t about fishing and he showed me a picture of a 10# bucket mouth. I asked him where he caught it and he said MN. I said no way that would shatter the MN state record. He gave me there deer in the headlights stare and said “I caught it in a little lake in Plymouth”. I have family that I stay with when I’m up here.
He told me the lake and drew me a diagram of where he caught it and swore me to secrecy.
    I swear to God.

If the story is true, I would venture to guess the lake it may have been caught in. I lived across the street from that lake and it had some huuuuge largemouth in it before it winter killed off the big ones a few years back.

Here is the one from 2007 that I caught in the mid August heat. It gulped a plastic down the throat and I tried reviving it for 15 minutes without success so I kept it and got a mount of it.

Guys, this is a walleye site. Can we stop it with this talk about bass? chased

I’ve seen a couple between 21-22″ come out of Chisago area lakes. There are some pretty healthy populations of big bass in those area lakes.

I am pretty sure I know the lake too. My nephew and I fished it quite a few times.

22.5”. It still pales in comparison to the couple bigguns I nabbed from a tiny pond in FL…. 24” & 25”. No weights on any of these fish, unfortunately.

22.5″ taken on a jointed Rebel summer of 1977 on a small western WI lake when I graduated from high school. Caught a 21.5″ and a couple 20″.

Matt, do you realize that if official, this ties the current state record?
