Big surprise

I was out on French Lake near Faribault on Saturday catching the occasional crappie or sunny when I saw a flash up at about 15 feet. I had been working the bottom at 23 feet and getting a few to chase up the bait, but not much committing. I reeled up to 15 to see what I could snag and Wham! my pole bent over and line started to peel off. That definitely kicks in that surge of adrenaline knowing it is something big. It took a while working it to get it back to the hole and finally up. I was rather surprised when I saw this ugly thing poke its head up. I have never caught a sheepshead before, but man what a great fighter! I caught it on a little eye with two little flash blades at the top and a waxie with a spike on too. It may not seem like much to get excited about, but it made my day.

Of course it did. I’d be happy too. That’s what fishing is, to me anyway. If a fish didn’t pull back when caught, I think I’d quit fishing. Heck I get excited fish bluegills on 1 pound test just the same as muskies on 80 lb test.

Glad it made your day and you had a good time.
