The majority of my Walleye spoons are under 2“. Has anybody tried anything bigger with much success? I have a lot of Lake Trout stuff that I’ve thought about utilizing for bigger Walleyes thoughts/opinions?

Lake Winnipeg is notorious for big spoons. I think it’s dependant on the water you are fishing. I catch eater walleye on 7″ red tails in the fall when the fish are charged up and eating up for winter. I think big spoons through the ice around here might be tougher. Usually when I upsize baits it’s to target the larger fish in a pod. But aside from early and late ice it seems like I’m more apt to downsize than upsize. If you are on a big fish bite they might produce but it likely wouldn’t be a numbers producer.

I would give it a try early and late ice. Mid winter when they are a bit more lethargic it might not be as effective. Try it when you find and active pod.

I catch them on 4-5” suckers under tip ups so they’ll eat bigger stuff. My biggest fish last year came on a 2.5” spoon on ML. It was early ice and they were aggressive. I have a couple laker spoons in the box but they are usually too heavy for the gear I have.

Spoons up into the 1 oz. I will use. 3/4 oz. Seems to be the sweet spot. Swedish Pimples, Luhr Jensen Krocodile, Daredevle, Acme K. O. Wobbler, Kastmaster, Cast Champs, Bomber Slab Spoons, Mepps Syclops,…all good choices.

Use 3-4” spoons on lake Winnipeg all the time.
