Big Rivers with WX2190?

    Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine is considering a WX2190 and doesn’t do message boards, so i offered to post for him as we all know how great of information can be sponged from these boards.

The only lakes he fishes are Ontario and Erie, so the 2190 is obviously an awesome match for those.

He also fishes the Niagara River quite a bit and we’re both wondering how well the 2190 will do in that environment.

It’s all drift fishing for salmon\trout using roe bags. You keep the bow pointed upstream with the trolling motor so that you can slow yourself down a bit to match the drift rate under water. It’s a big river so i’m not worried about how skinny of water it can take – most drifts are in 20 FOW.

How do you guys think the 2190 will fare under that kind of use?

Just in case you don’t know much about the Niagara, i posted the link below which shows the discharge rate of various rivers for comparison.

    thanks!

That’s definitely a great choice for those situations. The 2190 is a big water king! Also the React Keel really helps keep your bow tracking straight even with the current or wind when moving at low speeds.

If he hasn’t seen the video on the 2190, it provides some very good information

I just spent 4 days fishing the Red and Winnipeg rivers in a WX2190 and it simply rocked. The react keel along with all the room inside while fishing 4guys made the trip very enjoyable and comfortable to fish out of. Just wish more fish would have liked to see the boat as well!

We fished in some strong south winds and the react keel kept us in perfect position for either vertical jigging or pitching with the current.

This was my first time running a WX2190 in a river situation and it passed with flying colors.

If your buddy has any other questions feel free to holler via pm or email.

Thanks Calvin, that’s exactly what i was hoping for; real-world feedback from an actual owner. I’ve been on those rivers you mention and they are similar enough to the Niagara to make a good comparison. My buddy is really pumped about seeing the 2190 at the boat show….

    thanks,
    mike

Not sure where your buddy lives, but we have them in stock and on the showroom floor at Skeeter Boat Center in Ramsey MN, he doesn’t have to wait until the boat show.

I’ve had the WX2190 now for about 2 months and I primarily fish the mighty Columbia for walleye. All I can say is the boat is simply amazing! Handles the big waves when the wind picks up, tracks great in the wind, plenty of room with the open cockpit layout, fast, handles like a sports car. Love it!

Thanks for the great feedback guys.

Calvin: we’re both in Toronto Ontario Canada which is a little too far…. with how well respected SBC is, we’d both love to buy from you guys but it’s just sooooo far…. we’ll have to wait until the boat show to get into them.
