This has been a long time in the making!

At Yamaha the label “SHO” stands for Super High Output and is reserved for Yamaha’s strongest running motors. Until now, the SHO motors have never been available in a 25″ shaft meaning the SHO motors could never be hung on a walleye boat transom. That will change in 2015 as Yamaha has announced the release of the first two SHO outboards that will be available with a 25″ shaft!!

Slated to be available May of 2015 Yamaha’s first two motors will be the 150 & 250 SHO. This should be a game changer for the walleye guys looking to get even more go-power on the back of their boat. You’ll also notice that these new SHO motors come with black hoods giving people a new look to consider.

I’ll post more on this as new info becomes available.

    Great news!

Sure would be nice to see a 200PH model to pair up with those new WX1910’s but I’m sure that won’t be far behind. That seems like it would be a sweet combo.

I thought everyone said that the Offshore is the same motor as the ‘SHO’ with a different hood design etc.

    Is that not true?

If I remember right the SHO is mechanical throttle and the off shores are electronic drive by wire. Should save some money for just that part of it…

    SHO has a supercharger….

??? I’m not an outboard motor buff, but I’m pretty sure the Verado is the only mainstream outboard that has a supercharger.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

My bad, I had Yamaha’s SHO jetski’s in my head when answering…you are correct, no supercharger on the SHO motor

You can compare the models against each other here

quick answer is the offshore is 55 lbs heavier and produces 20 more amps from the alternator..

It doesn’t look like the Yamaha website has been updated to show the new shaft lengths on the SHO line yet. If you use the comparison tool on the website, you are comparing the 20″ VF250 SHO against the 25″ F250 Off-Shore. This would explain the large weight difference.

The difference that stands out to me is the fuel grade recommended. My bet is that the SHO is a bit hotter just due to the 89 octane vs 87.

Here I thought they were going to come out with a new T9.9 kicker and there were going to be even steeper discounts on current ones in stock.
