    Calhoun, not Harriet.

That’s a heck of a fish. Unfortunate that it wasn’t able to be released, but the young man seems like a good and respectable angler.

Congrats to him on a great fish! As much as the musky die hards hate to admit it, old fish die one way or another. Sure this one may have lived a while longer, but probably not much longer.

I’ve read elsewhere that the musky guys are pissed at how he could purposely be targeting muskies at such high temps. Of course it’s not going to make it at 80 degree water temps.

How do they even know that the water temp is 80 degrees? That’s not mentioned anywhere in the article. It certainly could be, but without knowing I’m guessing it was somewhere between 75-80 degrees. I know that musky guys are pretty die hard about their target but sheesh let’s just not jump to a conclusion.

What is the minimum to actually keep a pure strain muskie from Calhoun Lake? 54 inches? Hopefully something good can come from the dead fish like a skin mount. I would not recommend eating that thing lol

For every compliment there is a complaint. I’ll bet that not every musky guy follows the 80 degree rule.

Thanks. That’s interesting. That list is basically all of the lakes that have tiger muskies but this is clearly a pure strain.

Conrats to him. If it was caught legally and over the required size limit, he has every right to take that fish. Plus as Big Werm said, it was an old fish.

I’m a big musky guy, but a lot of the musky hardcores are hypocritical in my mind. They preach the save the musky gospel, but will treat bass and pike like carp when they accidentally catch one. These are the same guys that come winter will harvest their legal limits of panfish and walleye all winter long. Not trying to start a fight, but I hate when we give each other a hard time over keeping fish that are perfectly legal. That guy pays for a license the same as we do.

Plus you can clearly tell that his intent was to release the fish too. Its not like he was meat hunting for a big muskie. Mortality happens amongst many species of fish after you catch them especially in the warmer summer months.

Amen. x1000. And I still do catch and release for trophy caliber fish, life’s too short to get mad at guys on your same team.

Is it just me or does the new name for lake Calhoun sound like one of those low to the ground drinking fountains they have in Europe bathrooms?

    Good for him. Nice fish.

Is hard to launch, load & park-no parking lot if you park on the street you have to drive a couple of blocks to get to a turnaround, know a guy who can parellel park a boat-not me! Doable if you go early, then I have the DNR weed person watch for various bladers, bikers, etc as I back the trailer in-quiet on the lake at least.
