Big Green Lakers

Got out to Big Green for the first time this season. Started at 6:45am in 120′ just NW of Horners landing. Had a few disinterested lookers over the first 90 minutes, then some more active fish from 8:15-9:00. Got 2 to hook up on a #3 Orange Tiger UV Jiggin Rap but lost ’em both on the way up. Moved out to 140′ from 10am-12pm and had a few marks here and there — threw the tackle box at ’em but could not get them interested. I’ll give her another shot this weekend.

I would really love to try fishing for lakers one of these days..sounds like a lot of fun. Never done it before. I’m only like an hour away from Big Green.

A friend of mine and his group got 8 Lakers on Lake Geneva last Sat. Tip ups with frozen whole smelt and jigs with cut smelt. Might try that on Green.

I have been shut out on Big Green quite a few times but, IMHO, its worth putting the time in to be able to fight a fish for 120′. I’m certainly no expert but if you want to try it and have any questions I’ll share what I know.

I’ve used cut bait and live minnows on Big Green but have had very little luck. I have always had more action fishing artificials naked.

Are you able to drive trucks out on the lake? Have heard there were a lot of unsafe areas on the lake.

I haven’t been out since my post on the 28th. Personally, I’d never drive out on Big Green. There’s access to some good fishing within a short walk. YMMV.
