I got my taxes back today and with it I paid off my student loans. Only took me 11 years to do it. One step closer to being debt free with just a few, albeit large steps, to go

It’s a great feeling, and even cooler every month going forward when there’s that extra money in your account!
May 4, 2018 at 4:56 pm #1772645Now’s the time to upgrade that boat with your free cash you’ll have every month!
Seriously, though, that’s the problem. Most of us lack discipline to not upgrade our lifestyles when we come into free cash like this.
Congrats. Feels good man, doesn’t it?

Feels great!
I hear what you are saying with the free cash and temptation. Thankfully I already purchased the boat I plan on having until im old and crusty. The wife has a newish car and ill continue to drive beaters all my life. No plan is perfect and life will throw you curveballs once in a while. Speaking of extra cash I think I deserve something a little fancier than Hamms tonight. Might have to get me some sippin whiskey
May 4, 2018 at 5:47 pm #1772652Congrats! It’s a good feeling, isn’t it? I remember when I paid off my last bill in full! Enjoy that sippin’ whiskey!

May 4, 2018 at 8:11 pm #1772681Congrats on being free of those shackles!
Free of those shackles, but not free of all shackles. He still has kids…so?
In all sincerity though, cannot say if the student loans were worthwhile…perhaps they were. As a parent though, I will never have any second thoughts or regrets in whatever my children cost me. They have given me far more riches than any money is worth.

Better not see a post tomorrow “Check out my new Pick up and boat”
May 4, 2018 at 9:03 pm #1772694Great Job, to bad so many 100’s of thousands of students had to mortgage their futures for an education. It shows perseverance and maturity to get them paid off. Congrats.
May 4, 2018 at 9:23 pm #1772699We started a 529 college plan for our daughter when she was 5. Everyone with kids should have one especially if they have girls. With boys they can always go into the trades and make really good money if they don’t want to sit behind a keyboard, but girls need to get a college education to do well for themselves. With the cost of tuition these days, my daughter will be lucky to have enough saved up for one year but at least it’s a start.

I actually just looked up an old thread and went to total wine this morning. Picked up a bottle of lazy river bourbon. They had samples on the floor and i found it smooth. I also grabbed a bottle of black powder based off the recommendation from someone on here as a good cheap sipping whiskey. Cheers everyone! It’s a beautiful weekend for a BBQ and a cocktail or in my case a pour

Pretty much opening a can of worms with that statement. I would think the Gals in the US Military would take issue with what you say.
Please don’t group me in with your “our work”
AUTO_5InactiveMendota Heights, MNPosts: 660May 5, 2018 at 7:23 pm #1772800I would trade the ones I’ve seen who float from contractor to contractor for years and years in for a military gal who knows how to work a cordless drill. We got one that has to be re-trained daily and the ONLY reason she was hired was to give my employer the right to bid county work. Pretty messed up if you ask me.

May 6, 2018 at 10:50 am #1772903Congrats on paying off your student loan. I really hated making monthly payments toward a student loan. That transferred forward into hating paying towards any loan, which drives me to try to not borrow. Mortgage, vehicle, and no others. Within those, paying them off early is my goal, and putting as much cash down in the vehicle also helps reduce the dreaded loan.
One other point, a tax refund is not free money when it was your money that uncle sam was holding for you. Due to inflation, that money you got back later was worth less then when you earned it, time value of money.
You should not be using uncle sam as a forced annual savings program. It is better for you to break even or even owe taxes in on April 15th. Save that money yourself and invest it in your life as you go.

I have about 8 months left on my loans, getting excited about it!
May 7, 2018 at 10:28 am #1773092Congrats Crappie! It’s gotta be a good feeling.

Those two statements right there blatantly tells everyone on this forum what kind of person you are…open your eyes, objects in mirror may be closer…
